UNPOPULAR OPINION: KIM CHI (self.rupaulsdragrace)

I know there are many Kim Chi stans here on reddit, but let me just talk about why I don't think Kim deserves to be in the top 3. Ever since the start of the season, she's been getting a favorable edit that with any other queen that doesn't have the look she has would be subject to being sent home the first episode the season airs. She can't walk a runway, she can't dance and you can barely understand what she is saying. She is a look queen, and she will always be a look queen. I just have never seen in her that fierceness of what a drag superstar has. She is used to people looking at her and being amazed by her LOOK that now people are blinded to believe that a LOOK is enough to win this competition. America's next drag superstar should be WAY MORE than a look that can't EVEN walk on the runway. Sure her looks are cute, but they aren't even jaw dropping enough to compensate for having just a look. Even Michelle said it in a recent episode, she is so used to people being amazed by her look that she hasn't had to do much more than that. Looks are great, but they're not everything honey. She has had a great edit that rpdr fans fall for, but some of us can see past through it.

What? I've never had a problem understanding what she's saying. Actually, I think she's been extremely articulate and confident in her vision of drag and her concepts, much like Violet. Look at the recent interview she had on morning television that was posted here earlier today. Her acting/dancing ain't the greatest, but she's actually shown a lot of personality in terms of making jokes/reading queens/just being a good time.

With that said, she's not my personal favorite, and I don't necessarily think she will win, as Bob and Thorgy I think are the two favorites at the moment, but I would not be upset with her being the top 3 if she happens to make it there. The other remaining queens have big flaws too.

a) Get your hearing checked because she speaks very articulately and I haven't once not understood her.

b) your attitude in this post is flat out rude and you should take your negativity elsewhere. Talk about your favourites rather than putting others down, especially when you can't even justify your opinions with a rational argument and have to resort to hyperbole and trash talking

She can't dance and can't walk. But what impresses me the most about her is that she's giving it 100 percent all the time, and doesn't hide behind excuses. She probably won't win, but I love her the way she is. I love the fact that she's a 6'4 awkward dork queen, who can't walk and dance, but still manages to deliver. Look back at Bitch Perfect, bitch killed it imo, even though she had a very big disadvantage. I really hate threads like this. What's your goal exactly? Swaying people to hate Kim because you hate her?

Some people feel better whenever they express an opinion that makes them seem unique or different. Perhaps they don't get a similar kind of validation in real life so they resort to stuff like this. Others meanwhile feel insecure over the fact that other people don't share their views so they try to change those views. Eitherway, I agree with the sentiment that it's not healthy on numerous occassions. I myself should refrain from doing shit like this sometimes. It's just not productive.

Kim has proven to have charisma by the 110% she gives her performances, she has proven to be unique, she has proven to have nerve in her Snatch Game and her reads, and she is talented. Next!

Well that's your wrong opinion and that's okay..her hair ball, red carpet, rollergirl, neon looks were all jaw dropping. And I gagged over her makeup this episode.

Girl you can have your opinion all you want, but don't try to claim those who like her are blinded while you "see through the edit." Go wash dishes.

Stop with the hyperboles. You can clearly hear what she says.

What she's given us so far asides from looks is that she is willing to take risks in the competition (taking the part Cookie before she switched with Thorgy), fully commits to what she's doing in spite of her skill set, witty as fuck with her Kimmy Jong Un and shadyness, etc.

She never makes excuses, she couldn't dance but turned it the fuck out by doing a character in Bitch Perfect and used her weakness as a STRENGTH. Her lowkey suggestion of making a band name off the cuff with Les Chicken Wings shows she's witty and willing to take risks.

Sorry since this is a thread on an unpopular opinion but I'm just trying to say that she's not "all look" when she has substance to show.

I assume they don't subtitle her because they're trying to edit her favorably...if they had to subtitle her every time she spoke then people would be kinda pissed if she made it into the top 3.

Not really, it's not done out of respect for Kim. Yara was top 4 and got subtitled for her English, and got a decent edit. Many queens, mind you, who speak PERFECT English, have gotten subtitled when they're painting their faces because they spoke quietly or was mumbling to the person next to them.

Clearly, production understood everything she's said.

edit: Plus under the production company, they're responsible for making the viewing experience as easy and smooth as possible. This has nothing to do with the edit. Viacom wouldn't dare let them air a show if they failed to do this, because it would be straight up UNPROFESSIONAL.

There has been a few times I've had to rewatch her because I didn't quite get what she was saying.

But they also edit her speaking time down a lot more than other queens.

look may not be everything but look at it the other way around, henny. the performing queens this season can't serve a look. performing isn't everything.

This post was kind of unnecessary, but I see what you're saying. Although, no one is really saying "Ugh she looks amazing every week, she needs to win" she has been doing quite well in the challenges, and not fucking up royally, so if she continues on that streak.... Kim can place top 3 easily. She's not coasting, but just solidifying her position. I WOULD NOT, however, call her a look queen. She has sass and personality, a look queen is only THAT. A LOOK, she has more to offer than a look. She may not be the BEST performer, but she definitely doesn't hide behind her looks. She has a personality and a very nerdy sense of humor... it works and it's a style all her own. You're entitled to your opinion of course, but I personally would not call her a look queen.

Couldn't have said it any better myself to be honest. I was a Kim Chi fan, follower via IG long before her getting onto Season 8 of The Race. Was excited but quickly felt empty handed at what she was delivering since the start, since the MTQ videos. She has not delivered. Those excessive tongue pops were not funny Sasquatch.

I don't have a problem with her talking, but she sure can't dance and walk the runway... Also her acting is not AMAZING, it's just meh for me, she's drowning in this big personalities... I'm predicting her at top 4, and MC.
