How truly special is Martial? (self.reddevils)

There's just something in him that truly stands out although it's sad that he alone cannot carry the team this early in his career. With better players around him, and already showing what he can do with this limited support, he will surely be among the greatest of players in a United shirt. What's your opinion?

I wouldn't say I was completely unaware of Martial when we first signed him. My first thought was "Huh, it's the kid I know from FM15".

I didn't care that we spent 36m plus add-ons for him, I was just happy we signed a striker at all.

Then the Liverpool game happened.

I love Martial and he deserves the shirt and crest. He's an absolute joy to watch in an otherwise bleak season.

I accidentally sold him in Fifa and now I'm really sad.

He's scored 13 and assisted 5 with us in his first season at the age of 20 and has managed to be our most threatening player by a margin in pretty much every single one of our games. All this while playing in a incredibly dysfunctional, poorly managed team plagued with injuries in which he is the only player which the opposition need bother to try mark out the game.

My only minuscule, irrational fear with Martial is that he is so precocious and mature that he's pretty much already fully developed. Even in that very very unlikely instance we'll still have a great player in our ranks.

Martial is having an excellent debut season, our most exciting attacker at 19 and 20, something special. That being said, he is still young, and this kind of game actually suits him. He is one of our few wingers who actually thrives in an isolated situation with a fullback.

The sky is the limit for someone like him and his head seems to be screwed on right. He has drive to be the best, that's important. I hope he loves it in Manchester a whole lot, because the biggest clubs in the world will be calling in 2-3 years time. We need to get him on an improved deal next year, 100%. It's rare for someone his age to be as consistent as him. Funnily enough, I do think Van Gaal is actually helping him out.

He could be a one season wonder, but I think that's more doubtful at this point. The most important thing is his mentality, he's not exceptionally skilled, but he wants to be the best.

Very special. Even if he, for some reason, stopped developing as a player, he'll get better and better as we get the players we need to give him the space and time on the ball.

why comparing them with these sub-par players? compare him with the likes of Mahrez/ Payet who have often played as a winger for their respective clubs. Add Sanchez/ Mane/ Ayew if you want as well for bigger perspective.

For me, I still think Martial is anything but ordinary. He's our best player so far this season IMO (better than DDG and Smalling) as basically almost all of our goals, he played a part in it.

I think the point was to compare him with players who are roughly the same age. It's not fair to compare a young player with some of the fully developed ones you listed.

He's the 3rd best youngster from France behind Kingsley Coman and Ousmane Dembele (who's been by far the best youngster in the history of ligue 1 this season, blowing away Martial's stats at the same age)

I think the best youngster I've seen emerge from Ligue 1 was Eden Hazard at Lille. I haven't been following lately, admittedly; how good is Dembele?

what i love most besides his natural ability is how down to earth the guy is.....doesn't celebrate like a lunatic after signing for United just casually orders a curry....love it.

He is good enough that we should build our squad around him.

Also if we don't win the league in the next 2 years, I see him going to Real Madrid.
