No. It's time for him to go. He has been overrun in midfield numerous times, he has no pace, and he has struggled overall this season.

In terms of leadership, we still have Rooney, Smalling, and DDG.

I will be sad to see him go, but it's best for us moving forward.

Fair point.

I wouldn't consider DDG a leader though.

I do. He's our best player, been at the club for five years (in June), knows us well, so I definitely see him as a leader and worthy of the armband.

Being our best player is completely irrelevant. He seems really quiet and doesn't seem like the type of player to rally the troops in the dressing room

You don't need to be the most vocal to be a leader. DDG leads by example. When he came to United, he struggled. Yet, he put in the hard work day-in and out, and he has transformed into the best GK in the world.

It would show the young lads that his success is replicable through hard-work, and, you too, one day could captain United.

There are plenty of ways to lead, not just by being the most vocal.

I agree. Id rather him go and blind take his spot. I think he would do superb there and should be taken out of cb for a proper cb (not that hes been terrible there)

You lot have short memories. The start of the season Carrick was arguably our best midfielder and has been our best midfielder over the last 4 years, being the only player who seemed to be able to put a decent ball up to a player bar Blind. Definitely worth keeping for rotation and one of the few players left at the club who knows how to win games.

That's the argument i have for him. When he plays i feel like most of the time we play better. He's always trying to get in ball to players in attacking positions.

He'd be useful to have as a deep lying playmaker if the rest of the midfield isn't slow.

Carrick of late in my opinion has been too slow and sloppy. I feel it's time for him to leave before his form deteriorates too far. Our fans seem to like turning on players or any other staff. I'd hate it to happen to him.

I'd give him one. He's a good asset to have on the bench when you're killing off a 1-0 game because he's still a useful passer of the ball. And he'll probably to retire after next season anyway. And for sentimental reasons it would be nice to see him have a testimonial before he retires.

That said, I don't think he'll get an extension.

Not if another midfielder(James) is coming in this window and nobody else leaves. The midfield is going to get crowded.

There are also rumors linking us to Andre Gomes and Renato Sanches, so, yeah, I feel as if Carrick will be moved on.

James?

James Rodriguez. IDK how much truth there is to the transfer rumors but multiple sources have reported that Mourinho is interested in buying him after joining United.

They're completely different players though. If we get a replacement DM/CM then I wouldn't mind seeing Carrick leave but James makes no difference.

That's like saying we should sell Rooney if we sign a CB. Completely different players

Depends. If they get others in, then maybe not. He's a good player and would be a great squad player, but if we have enough in the squad, then let him go.
