Pardon me while I share some thoughts I've been holding onto.....
First, I was actually pretty happy with large portions of the match at WHL.
That being said, if I was in some way in charge of the club I would be looking at where the team is now and where it has been for these past 3 seasons, and say enough is enough. There are too many players that quite honestly are just complete shit. Too many players that show some brilliance for a game or 2, but then disapear for months on end. not to mention, at some point, you have got to cut dead weight on injuries.
So here is my list of players that I would send packing....immediately
Phil Jones : Sorry. Loads of potential but he is made of glass.
Marouane Fellaini : Honestly can't stand him. Big but not strong. Doesn't have pace. Doesn't defend well. He can't create for anyone. Just doesn't have a real position. And when he is on the pitch, the team play just becomes hard to watch.
Michael Carrick : Seems like he may be gone anyways. Maybe our most important player in the last title season. But he has lost pace and quickness and worst of all has seemingly become careless with the ball.
Juan Mata : He is a genius at times. But he is not fast enough, not strong enough, and is simply taken out of games WAY to easily.
Antonio Valencia : This really the only one that hurts. One of my favorite United players in the last 5-10 years. But he just isn't half the player he was 3-4 years ago. Maybe if he could stay healthy he could show sings of returning to form. But for the sake of moving forward, it's time to let him go.
Ashley Young : Never a big fan, but to be honest he has been a bright spot under LVG. That said, he is another guy who is an injury waiting to happen and just doesn't have the pace he once did.
Guys I'm on the fence about :
Bastian Schweinsteiger : basically a waste this year. But still think of all the players listed (aside from Rooney), he is most capable of being a world class player.
Matteo Darmian : I don't know what happened. He looked incredibly early in the year (ok....mostly preseason). now he can't stay healthy, looks disjointed with the other players when on the pitch and looks to be lacking much confidence.
Marcos Rojo : Another constant injury concern. His playing style is suited so much more for fullback (love his crossing), but he isn't quick enough and seems a bit of a liability. I would love to see him given a real chance to play in the center. Does he really want to be here though?
Jesse Lingard : Love his energy. Love his worth ethic. Love his passion. but he is way too careless with the ball and his finishing leaves a lot to be desired. He is still young, but I'm not convinced he will ever be good enough to be a regular on a title contending side.
Adnan Januzaj : Clearly capable of being a brilliant world class player. But he needs to grow up. But most of all, needs to get healthy and work his butt off. If Adnan and Memphis can get their emotions in check (Martial is a great example) then we could be looking at an attacking trio (4 if you throw in Rashford) that would be better than just about any squad in the world. Memphis seems to have taken his reality check as the year has progressed and worked hard, wheras I think Adnan still thinks he deserves more (maybe he does...???) but i'm not convinced he is willing to prove it in training.
Wayne Rooney : Can't part with Wazza yet. Before he became the unquestioned leader of this team, I would have said it's time to move on. Now I'm thinking I want him to be the Cantona to our up and coming class of '92 esque youngters
