RB Darmian, Valencia, Varela, Young, TFM have all been injured, Shaw, Rojo and CBJ have been injured so thats quite a few enforced, then add the times they've had to be rushed back because of all the injuries so weren't ready for a full 90 mins yet, it looks worse than it is.

To be fair we've had constantly injured/unfit fullbacks so we've had to rotate loads (including mid match to get ones coming off injury some time or not make them play the full 90 straight away)

Verthongen was out for months yesterday and didn't need to be subbed.

But

A) Vertonghen isn't injury prone like our full backs

B) Poch doesn't have the same attitude to easing players in as Van Gaal

C) Spurs are in a must-win part of their season and that's why Poch took that risk

D) Jan had been training for a couple of weeks now

The modern full back position is arguably the most physically demanding on the pitch, having to both defend almost as well as a centre back but attack almost as well as a winger.

Teams like Spurs have four full backs who regularly see game time through rotation as in Poch's system it's nearly impossible for his wing backs to play twice in a week.

I thought it was pure madness to start the season with only two natural full backs in the senior squad. It's a position which demands rotation.

Full backs are positions which require really demanding players, and this position is very important for LvG's system to work. Unfortunately we've had most injuries in this position with Valencia, Varela, Shaw, Rojo, Darmian, CBJ being out for various times due to injuries. So these subs could have to do with keeping players fit. But more than that maybe it was due to the full backs not doing their job well too! We haven't had full backs supporting our wingers in stretching the play and opening up possibilities. We just haven't had the right balance between attack and defense in the full back positions. TLDR: Yes, OP observation is right. We did use many subs in this position. Some enforced due to injuries, some due to poor performances.
