Apparently we're "Imploding" because of the Rapp events. (self.GamerGhazi)

I know /r/Drama has become just another toilet hangout of KiA/TiA affiliates, so maybe it comes at no surprise, but apparently this subreddit is "imploding" because of the Rapp events according to them.

Could someone direct me to the implosion?

To be clear:

The mods are aware of the resurgent campaign against Rapp, including a new wave of propaganda.

We would appreciate it if those allegations were not posted here. We are speaking directly with Rapp regarding how best we can offer support. For the time being, we would rather not Ghazi become a place that further spreads information that GamerGate (and people targeting Rapp separately from GamerGate but still intending to make her miserable) dug up and used GamerGate to propagate.

It's always astounded (in a horrified way) me how Gamergate has cultivated a culture of utter credulity. Twitter is an amazing place to start lies rolling, as the limited character space means that even more or less complete thoughts can lack nuance or context that drastically alter their meaning. A direct unaltered quote, when presented within the daisy chain of impulsive angry retweets can wind up being supporting a completely dishonest conclusion.

Way back when this shit was getting off the ground I had a friend of mine from my high school days tell me with a straight face that Dan Olsen got sent straight to jail for "distributing child pornography". He had apparently been one of the folks who fled to 8chan after they got to be too much for 4chan.

I did talk to police. Twice, actually. Once about a possible SWATing, and once about the pile of unfounded allegations. Heck, I still have the second officer's info around here somewhere. He even told me I could arrange interviews with their unit if I wanted to do any sort of follow up articles, videos, or other content.

Eh, there is a fair bit of outrage on twitter. Mainly because gg is openly gloating about doxxing someone's whole family and spreading it.

I think ghazi doesn't do the 'GG did something horrible to soandso' posts because it paints a huge target on that person and doesn't really help?

We're talking with her directly regarding how to handle everything. She's currently targeted by KiwiFarms, KiA, and /ggrevolt/, so it's not a fear of painting a target on her back but a concern with offering support in a proper manner.

This is why we've been removing links and comments about the new wave of propaganda, because we don't want this subreddit to be another place where the propaganda spreads and further causes her stress or frustration.

lurker numbers likely come from kiwifarms. they've got a watch thread for this sub, and they took notice of our other thread about rapp by posting it directly in their thread digging on rapp.

that's most definitely where the brigade on that thread came from.

the most depressing thing about all of this is that it's like we witnessed a repeat of what started the gate, of what happened to zoe. but nothing could be done to stop it coming to fruition, even though all the signs and pieces were there.

almost two years later and it's happening again, but now the mobs know how easy it is to succeed and nobody is safe.

And it happened before Zoe too. I am thinking of Kathy Sierra. Auernheimer basically wrote the book on trashing a woman's career with his harassment of her. GG has followed his trail from the start and now that Auernheimer is a part of GG himself, there is no way they will stop with these tactics as long as they prove to be successful.

Drama subs have always been hubs for trolls, stalkers, bigots and brigadiers, even if they like to pretend to be more sanitized.

To be honest, I don't think the sub handled the whole thing very well, but it could have been worse and a low level of discourse isn't really comparable to harassment/stalker mobs. It only seemed to last a few days, anyway, then blew over, as it would have everywhere in an ideal world. Not a huge shock that folks hanging out in a drama sub reach for dramatic exaggeration.

Truth be told, the dissonance between "You're a horrible person for buying anything from Nintendo!" to "The new Zelda has the option of choosing between a boy or girl? Awesome!" was jarring. Though to be fair, that former reaction was pretty overblown.

The weird thing is that there wasn't much of a schism throughout the whole thing. I mean, if the sub would have imploded, events that would have been more likely to do it include Maddy Myers and Brianna Wu criticizing the sub, Black Lives Matter protesting Bernie Sanders, heck, the Clinton/Sanders race in general.

she said something about localization or games that gaters didn't like (if i remember, it was about how localization isn't the biggest issue in the world).

and because of that, she was given the GG-Patented background check, it's just that this time they got some help from a "we have some gaters but overall aren't gamergate but we do have several threads focusing on gamergate targets with a lot more activity than any of the threads we have focusing on gaters themselves" forum.

anything they found in the background check was used to retroactively justify why they were digging and why they hated her, and they've gone as far as doxxing her family, among other things.

I wouldn't call it an implosion. I don't think I've seen anyone who wasn't sypathetic to het. People have varied a bit on their views of Nintendo afterwards. But I still think everyone has been supporting her.
