Surströmming is a Swedish "dish", not Norwegian.

I feel foolish, I did not do my research well enough. I thought it was the fermented fish locally consumed. I apologise for mis speaking and seeming I'll educated (which I was).

Are there canned varieties of local variants?

You'd probably have more success asking our neighbors on /r/sweden as surströming is a Swedish speciality. We Norwegians have rakfisk, a bit milder and much more tasty fermented fish dish :)

Thank you for the response, I have mis spoken and apologize. I need to research further rather the excitedly post. :)

If Norway is your heritage then I should probably let you know that surströmming is Swedish... The Norwegian alphabet doesn't even use ö!

You should try and get a hold of some lutefisk or rakfisk if you want a similarly unpalatable equivalent from Norway. If those are a bit too funky then some good old fashioned tørrfisk could do it!

Funkier is better! And thank you, I feel foolish for mis speaking.

No worries! Hmmm, not sure which is more funky out of lutefisk and rakfisk... Rakfisk is funky in the fermented (rotten) sense, lutefisk is funky in the extremely alkaline sense where the meat has turned into a sort of jello... don't eat it with silverware!

I think there are laws against shipping biological weapons, by the way.
