LVG has always been known for his weird subs and position changes but what the fuck was today?

Take off Rashford and replace him with Ashley Young who has just come back from a very long term injury and has only played up top ONCE in the U21s. Meanwhile Anthony Martial a striker is stood on the left side which is ironically the position that Young made his name in!!!!

Not only this but he continued with Mata in the right position for 70 MINUTES. Despite him not doing a single thing positive in that position!! And who has also played that position this season.. Ashley Young...

I'm so confused, If a game summed up our season it would be this one!! 81 Days till Mourinho guys.. 81 days...

We keep letting our players get away with murder.

Swapping the striker with a no.10/winger is NOT why we conceded 3 goals.

The gameplan was keeping Spurs pretty fucking quiet. The bumbling defending on that 1st goal was an individual mistake, not a tactical one.

The mentally crumbling after going 1-0 down was not a tactical mistake.

Fuck these players. I can deal with them being technically shit but I can't stand them being this mentally weak.

    So mind the Ajax flair but United is my team away from home. I've been one of the biggest supporters of van Gaal throughout the whole of this season. One of the last fans still supporting him at this point. But today was just fucking insane and I am at a point where I don't give a flying fuck if he loses the job. You want to bring Ashley Young on at half? Good call! But don't fucking play him as a fucking striker. He has 0 ability to hold up the ball, is far slower and worse in the air than Rashford who he replaced. Take a chance to win the game and take off Jesse "always plays it safe" Lingard. The guy isn't bad, but he sure as fuck isn't good either. He isn't going to win you a game. Take a chance when you go one down and put Memphis on. Yeah, he's been inconsistent, but he does have the ability to make something happen on his own. Michael fucking Carrick. Look, I get he is important to the club, brings experience and what not, but he is so far over the hill. He doesn't even pass the ball well anymore and he is slower than my fucking grandmother who has been dead for over 5 years. LvG finally makes some positive changes after the game is long gone and United are 3 goals down. United needed to win. Make those fucking changes when it is tied at nil. Take a risk. If we gave up 3 playing an unbalanced, attacking game, then so be it. But this was fucking pathetic. I know it's late on but today was the straw that broke this camel's back.

    Spot on, couldn't have said it better myself. People act as if we don't need to buy a number 10 because we have players like Lingard, Herrera and Mata (and some even include Peirera). Couldn't be more wrong. We need a De Bruyne, an Erikson, someone to fucking transfer the ball from midfield to attack without passing it sideways, backwards, or straight up losing the ball. Average team, average players (excluding Martial and De Gea), average performances. Oh, and a shit manager

    I was on your side as well for a long time. I admire him so much for his achievements with the Dutch, he was able to make players better than they were. That makes a big difference between good and awesome managers. Sadly, at this point he is making players play worse. It hurts me to see Memphis play and believe he is actually one of the people hurt most by LvG.

    The saddest thing is Ed may stick with Van Gaal next season. Van Gaal is the biggest culprit, but Ed Woodward is part of the guilty company too.

          For all LVG's faults I don't really think this loss was his fault. I highly doubt if Rashford had stayed on we'd have scored when we were creating nothing (bar that Martial run) or we wouldn't have crumbled after the goal. The truth is there's fundamental problems with this squad, no creativity and no world class players/matchwinners and no leaders at the back

          If Leicester doesn't teach you anything than nothing will ever will. They certainly do not have a world class player. We have a few of creative players, it's how you deploy and use them.

          The fundamental problem is the manager, his so called philosophies and his inability to respond to his opponent's tactic.

          He should and could have brought in Herrera, patch the midfield because we were outrun by the end of the first half as they started to exploit our right area. Fosu Mensah was directed to bombard just like he did at Everton with Mata staying back to cover <-- if this tactic doesn not sound wrong, I don't know what is.

                    Rojo doesn't cover after Smalling and Blind do their comical collision and so Alli is completely free in the centre for Eriksen's early cross. What was Darmin supposed to do? Go tight on Eriksen? That just leaves a massive gap in the centre that Eriksen can run into.

                    Second goal - he gives away a free-kick but come on man, it was poor marking by Rojo on Alderweireld.

                    Third goal - comes from his side but Rojo loses Lamela completely.

                            TFM was excellent, even if his task did mean Mata had no threat in attack.

                            Young, a left wing specialist, upfront when we have an excellent striker on the left sums up LVG's substitutions.

                            The fact we fell apart so easily is the worst though, no fight from anyone, and LVG persists sitting down on the bench believing that the players know the plan for every situation. That is not modern management and it's not what this club is about. This club fights all the way to the end. For Van Gaal, it is the end.

                                Just 90 ? looking up match lineups, watching news of possible LVG sacking/resigning every few hours on the subreddit. I think the worst thing this regime has done is to make me numb to the results. I'm not shocked by the result and the manner in which it came about and I bet nobody is, there have been numerous games this season already where we could've gone out to much worse teams with similar results if not for De Gea.

                                      Take nothing away from Spurs - they've been by far the better side both today and this season. And I'd argue that they are stronger at every position.

                                      That said, it's embarrassing for us to be so reliant on an 18 year-old academy product with 1 previous PL start to his name. He goes off and 8 minutes later we've conceded 3 goals, all from the flank he was on. I love that this club promotes youth and gives fair chances to youth players, but to be so consistently reliant on players like Rashford, Martial, Lingard, and today, Fosu-Mensah, just shows how much wrong LVG has got in his tenure. We should not capitulate when a virtually untested 18 year-old goes off injured.

We had a chance of getting within one point of City but you'd think we were in mid table with nothing to play for after that complete joke of a performance. We created one chance the entire game and that was completely down to Martial's individual brilliance. Defensively we were abysmal.

                                      I'm so fucking sick of LVG's fetish of playing players out of position. Ashley Young up front when you have Martial in the team is a laughable decision. As is playing Mata out wide when you have Lingard in the team. It's basically trying to fit square pegs into round holes when you have round pegs right next to you. I doubt it would have made a difference in the result today but there's just no logic to it.

                                      Fosu-mensah was the one positive of the game. He showed more in that game than Darmian has all season as far as I'm concerned. The positivity that all the players coming from the youth system have makes me wonder why the whole team can't play like that.

                                      It's a fucking embarrasment that the best case scenario for this season now is 4th with no trophies and even that's looking very unlikely now. Pochettino will be telling his players 'Lads it's United' next season if we something major doesn't change in this football club.

                                      The positivity that all the players coming from the youth system have makes me wonder why the whole team can't play like that.

                                      My theory on this is that they haven't been corrupted by Van Gaal's philosophy when they break into the team so they play a completely different style of football than what he has ingrained into the senior players. When did Martial/Rashford play their best football for United? In their first 3 or 4 games when they were only being introduced to training with the senior team. After Van Gaal took them under his wing their performances dropped.

                                      Don't get me wrong, they're still good players but they are nowhere near the level they were when they broke into the first team. And I believe that's all down to Van Gaal's training and tactics destroying talented players.

                                        Absolute shocking display. We were in a good position at half time and then for the life of me I cannot figure out the substitutions LVG makes. Ashley Young substitution was fucking awful. Not bringing on Herrera was also a mistake for sure, Mata was useless. Then after the goal furry he brings on Memphis for an absolutely useless 15 minutes. The poor lad had to watch Ashely Young be subbed on before him after Young hasn't played in a long time. In my opinion this was our worst display of the season. Other than a couple great runs by our youngsters we had nothing going forward and could not keep up any sort of sustained pressure. I know he won't be sacked after this game, by fuck me if this doesn't further solidify his departure this summer.

                                          I really want to like LvG, I really do. He has genuinely done some positive things for the club and some bright ideas - the problem is he's made twice as many atrocious decisions as well. Blind has been a great step-in defender (though yes today he made some bad mistakes, but remember how good he was last game), Martial has been fantastic, though the young-uns were forced in they've been managed very well, a lot of the dead wood has gone (though i'd have kept 1 or 2 until we had proven players in their position...).

                                          However, the team selection has been absolutely atrocious at times. Today has been ridiculous. Mata and Lingard are in the wrong position. The Rashford/Martial combo worked quite well when we didn't have a decent winger, so we had to use Martial - but with Young and Valencia back there is no excuse. TFM at RB over Darmian did appear to work well this game, but it was a big gamble with so much at stake. Rojo is in a poor run of form and should have been dropped. Then the stupid out-of-place substitutions ... what is going on?

                                          I'm still not convinced Mourinho is the best manager for the club, as i'm worried he'll burn us out like he did Chelski .. but LvG HAS to go and Mou is the best manager available.

                                          At the end of the day, this is a very predictable result. I made a thread about how we tend to have bad results every 2-3 games. If we don't get knocked out by West Ham, which is highly plausible, then our next third game is against Leicester. Expect us to look impressive against Villa and have a dour win against CP.

                                          We should accept that we have failed as a club. LVG has spent money woefully and the team is weaker than last season. Ironically the story of the game is how Spurs dodged a huge bullet in not signing LVG as their manager. Pochettino has come in with limited funds and built a team that plays like a team and has the right balance of experience and youth. I said to someone on this sub that Dele Alli has had a more impressive season than Martial and will probably win the young PFA award over Martial. As usual was downvoted.

                                          We can't feign ignorance over this loss. We faced MK Dons in LVG's first season and Dele Alli destroyed us. Yet we did nothing. We faced Leicester in LVG's first season and Vardy and Mahrez destroyed us. Yet LVG did nothing. Not saying that we shouldn't have gone for Martial, but there is talent that we just ignore and waste millions on buying players to be moulded into diff positions.
