LVG has always been known for his weird subs and position changes but what the fuck was today?

Take off Rashford and replace him with Ashley Young who has just come back from a very long term injury and has only played up top ONCE in the U21s. Meanwhile Anthony Martial a striker is stood on the left side which is ironically the position that Young made his name in!!!!

Not only this but he continued with Mata in the right position for 70 MINUTES. Despite him not doing a single thing positive in that position!! And who has also played that position this season.. Ashley Young...

I'm so confused, If a game summed up our season it would be this one!! 81 Days till Mourinho guys.. 81 days...

So mind the Ajax flair but United is my team away from home. I've been one of the biggest supporters of van Gaal throughout the whole of this season. One of the last fans still supporting him at this point. But today was just fucking insane and I am at a point where I don't give a flying fuck if he loses the job. You want to bring Ashley Young on at half? Good call! But don't fucking play him as a fucking striker. He has 0 ability to hold up the ball, is far slower and worse in the air than Rashford who he replaced. Take a chance to win the game and take off Jesse "always plays it safe" Lingard. The guy isn't bad, but he sure as fuck isn't good either. He isn't going to win you a game. Take a chance when you go one down and put Memphis on. Yeah, he's been inconsistent, but he does have the ability to make something happen on his own. Michael fucking Carrick. Look, I get he is important to the club, brings experience and what not, but he is so far over the hill. He doesn't even pass the ball well anymore and he is slower than my fucking grandmother who has been dead for over 5 years. LvG finally makes some positive changes after the game is long gone and United are 3 goals down. United needed to win. Make those fucking changes when it is tied at nil. Take a risk. If we gave up 3 playing an unbalanced, attacking game, then so be it. But this was fucking pathetic. I know it's late on but today was the straw that broke this camel's back.

For all LVG's faults I don't really think this loss was his fault. I highly doubt if Rashford had stayed on we'd have scored when we were creating nothing (bar that Martial run) or we wouldn't have crumbled after the goal. TFM was excellent, even if his task did mean Mata had no threat in attack.

Young, a left wing specialist, upfront when we have an excellent striker on the left sums up LVG's substitutions.

The fact we fell apart so easily is the worst though, no fight from anyone, and LVG persists sitting down on the bench believing that the players know the plan for every situation. That is not modern management and it's not what this club is about. This club fights all the way to the end. For Van Gaal, it is the end.

The same old shite yet again. Utterly, utterly pathetic. We had a chance of getting within one point of City but you'd think we were in mid table with nothing to play for after that complete joke of a performance. We created one chance the entire game and that was completely down to Martial's individual brilliance. Defensively we were abysmal.

I'm so fucking sick of LVG's fetish of playing players out of position. Ashley Young up front when you have Martial in the team is a laughable decision. As is playing Mata out wide when you have Lingard in the team. It's basically trying to fit square pegs into round holes when you have round pegs right next to you. I doubt it would have made a difference in the result today but there's just no logic to it.

Fosu-mensah was the one positive of the game. He showed more in that game than Darmian has all season as far as I'm concerned. The positivity that all the players coming from the youth system have makes me wonder why the whole team can't play like that.

It's a fucking embarrasment that the best case scenario for this season now is 4th with no trophies and even that's looking very unlikely now. Pochettino will be telling his players 'Lads it's United' next season if we something major doesn't change in this football club.

Take nothing away from Spurs - they've been by far the better side both today and this season. And I'd argue that they are stronger at every position.

That said, it's embarrassing for us to be so reliant on an 18 year-old academy product with 1 previous PL start to his name. He goes off and 8 minutes later we've conceded 3 goals, all from the flank he was on. I love that this club promotes youth and gives fair chances to youth players, but to be so consistently reliant on players like Rashford, Martial, Lingard, and today, Fosu-Mensah, just shows how much wrong LVG has got in his tenure. We should not capitulate when a virtually untested 18 year-old goes off injured.

Absolute shocking display. We were in a good position at half time and then for the life of me I cannot figure out the substitutions LVG makes. Ashley Young substitution was fucking awful. Not bringing on Herrera was also a mistake for sure, Mata was useless. Then after the goal furry he brings on Memphis for an absolutely useless 15 minutes. The poor lad had to watch Ashely Young be subbed on before him after Young hasn't played in a long time. In my opinion this was our worst display of the season. Other than a couple great runs by our youngsters we had nothing going forward and could not keep up any sort of sustained pressure. I know he won't be sacked after this game, by fuck me if this doesn't further solidify his departure this summer.

  1. Fosu Mensah again impressive
  2. Lingard, Martial, and Rashford showed some good interplay in the first half
  3. I didn't travel to the game
  4. The myth of Blind being a worthy first choice centre back should finally be dispelled
  5. We didn't lose 5-0, which we easily could have
  6. We probably won't finish fourth now and I'm ~80% confident that LVG will be sacked if we don't
  7. Our fans turned up on time
  8. A plane did not crash into the stadium and kill any of the players, fans, or staff of either club
  9. We are 90 minutes closer to winning a trophy at some point over the next quarter of a century

The bad:

  1. Blind will still be a first choice centre back for the rest of this season
  2. Fosu Mensah injured
  3. Rashford injured
  4. Rojo plays first team football for Manchester United and nobody seems to question it
  5. We brought on Ashley Young to play as centre forward in a must-win game

  7. LVG will be our manager until the end of the season because it's still mathematically possible that we can get fourth

Wasn't happy with Mata at RW today he had too much work to do defensively and he's just not capable to defend against the top teams. That being said we are such a one sided team, everything goes down the left and then Mata goes and joins them that side leaving nobody on the right with ToFu drifting centrally quite often.

Been undecided about Rojo for a while but he's not first team quality, at least at LB.

The Young substitution If it was needed and Rashford picked up a knock then ok but why the hell do you not move Martial to the middle?

Other than the first 20 minutes we looked tactically clueless. I'm sick of the constant short corners as well. Schneirderlin was one of the taller players in our team what the hell is he doing take a corner? Put him in the box and cause some trouble. I can't remember the last time we scored from a corner.

One thing that never seems to get talked about is our complete lack of ability to make any defensive clearance that goes back to one of our players. I've seen so many headers this game that arent even attempted to be aimed anywhere. Just blindly getting a head on. Specifically, Smalling had 2 headers in a row that were completely unmarked. He should have chested it down. Could have controlled it with his foot. Instead his first header looped it back into the air, the second straight back to Tottenham, when this should have been in our possession. We do it constantly, and it's so frustrating.

While TFM was on the pitch we were practically playing with a back 5, with mata at rb and TFM at rcb. In terms of attacking we were absolutely no threat, aside Martial's brilliance. LVG's plan coming into this match was horrible. A) Mata at RM B) Young as ST C) Lingard as 10 D) Not taking anything away from TFM's performance, TFM at RB (he was brilliant but he's could be so much more effective as cdm or cb even). Main point, players need to play in their favored positions!

Let me start by clarifying that I am a United fan.

It's amazing how many people in the Match thread didn't see that Memphis was in the wrong for getting into it with Walker.

Yes Memphis showed passion and he was upset that we were getting smacked around. But he was wrong. He got upset because he was being HELD IN PLACE by Walker and Memphis is used to being the strongest on the pitch. He got man Handled and lost his cool. 3-0 down. Fucking embarrassing I honestly can not see LVG staying this summer. Even if we somehow manage to squeak into top 4 I'd still want him gone.

Side note good to see Mike Dean give a booking for a dive.
