Started well, the pressing was really good for half an hour or so.

Not doing too much in attack.

Mata is being made to defend wayyy too much.

Goddamn, look TFM is a great defender. He is making important, tackles and interceptions, but that RB position is gaping. Mata is forced to cover there way too much. TFM is a beast but it seems like his positioning isn't too good at the moment.

Also our attacking has just died out within like 15 minutes.

Fosu-Mensah has done well and has made some vital blocks, but he's been all over the place. Finding himself in the middle of the pitch more often than not, which leaves Mata of all people on his own covering RB - something I'm sure Pochettino will pick up on and look to exploit if it's not dealt with. Looks like TFM has been told specifically to stick to Eriksen, so Eriksen is dictating where he takes him to create space.

Obviously attacking play is lacking, but we deserve credit for stifling their attack as well. Kane and Eriksen have been contained for the most part, and I hardly heard Alli's name in the first half - got to continue in the second. For me, have to introduce Young for Mata at some point in the second if it continues in the same vein.

Also, TFM turns me on.

That means the only way he is able to attack is when he is given the space to spray his passes around. Left back just mark him tightly and then push up, like Rose is doing today. When Mata gets the ball, they close him really early and fast, and Mata ends up getting wrestled off the ball and losing possession. Honestly, for today's game, we would be better suited with Valencia playing in Mata's position.

We are doing well at the back, bar a few lapses and near calls. But we lack the creativity going forward. I feel like Rashford and Martial are isolated and being forced to do everything. Lingard as a 10 is terrible, Mata out wide is disastrous.

Mata to 10. Lingard off for Memphis. Carrick off for Herrera. I think that'll create more going forward

I see Ashley Young coming on for Mata to help with tracking Rose and having some speed on that flank. It's too congested on the left for Martial/Rashford to run into that channel and Rojo to run into space. We need a bit of width on the right to stretch the pitch.

I don't like Lingard playing no. 10 position. He isn't helping developing the attack in the final 3rd. I understand we don't really have a good option for this position right now. But him playing this position is just not effective. He could have been a better impact in the wing position by opening up the width of the right side.

Fosu-Mensah is playing like a RW... this just puts too much pressure on Mata.

It's the same in this case, we need to win if we want to stay in the hunt for Top 4 and obviously Spurs can't drop any points either. But unfortunately, LVG is still not willing to take any chances by playing Carrick and Schneiderlin in the centre

TFM has been by far our best player. The only reason Rose is so far up is because Mata loves time on the ball and he has clear instructions to prevent that. Everyone knows when Mata is on the wing he's a liability.

How you push Rose back is threaten him with pace and creativity that could get around him, Mata provides neither.
