[Discussion] United 'desperate' to keep LVG (self.reddevils)

Does anyone get the feeling that English reporters are getting really pissed off that the Manchester United are a closed book right now and they can't find any information? Recent transfers have all been kept relatively quiet I mean look at Darmian and Martial. Throughout the Christmas period they made a load of rubbish articles regarding Jose coming to United even though Jose made it clear that he wouldn't take over mid season?

Or do you agree with the press that they really are desperate to keep LVG and they really haven't made up their minds yet, which if true should be the real worry regardless of what happens on the pitch.

What do you guys think?

There is absolutely NO evidence that Mourinho has been contacted by United board but these English sports reporters still doggedly pursue this spurious agenda to get LvG sacked! Maybe it is because LvG treats some of them like the idiots that they are...haha

Really only see two realistic scenarios:

1 - The Board is split on mourinho and thus LVG's season FA cup / top 4 would mean he stays.

2 - Mourinho already got the job where the clubs just waiting for the season end to announce it.

I think it's fairly clear what's going on.

Just like with Moyes, finishing outside of the top 4 is unacceptable. If we get some combination of a trophy and top four finish then it's fine. Maybe the board would accept fifth and the FA Cup provided it's not too big of a gap between us and whoever is in fourth.

All the talk about Mourinho putting deadlines in place is nonsense. The club will have spoken to Mourinho via Mendes and explained why they are waiting on LVG.

If they fire LVG now, or had fired him at Christmas, when it was still mathematically possible for us to make fourth, then any time a manager has a bad run of results, the press speculation would begin.

Hypothetically, hypothetically for some unforeseen reason (and a very unfortunate turn of events) we do not get rid of LVG at the the bad of the season and he is here for the "third year" of his process. The two seasons have been overwhelmingly been under par in terms of creativity and goals scored. We play like team in a straitjacket rather than a team we were used to. If that continues in the "third season" then who is a bigger fool, Ed Woodward the man who makes weird decisions like hiring Moyes and letting players like Di Maria and Kagawa leave or US for believing in a charlatan like LVG?

He's right. The ideal scenario for United is that Van Gaal gets up top 4 so they don't have to sack him.

They don't want to sack him because Woodward doesn't want another failure next to his name. It will also be expensive and the alternatives will require another leap of faith in one way or another.

Finishing 4th isn't really succeeding though based on how we've been this season. Yes it flatters a bit but it was dire time and again. It's more of us scraping through and them being happy with that.

When he says they want him to succeed he's not talking about finishing fourth. He's talking about finishing the squad restructuring and finishing in the title race or as champions next season.

Ah ok I thought it was in reference to this season and their moniker for success being 4th as that's what it apparently will take to be safe for him or so.

Nobody thinks that 4th place this season is "success". Just that it gives the opportunity to move on. We still need a fast and world class RW and a top CM to step up from here to champions. If you put Bale and Kroos/ Gundogan in this squad they would win the premier league without a doubt (also assuming Shaw comes back from injury as his old self). We'd probably also need another ST to compete with Memphis (i.e. if Memphis can't win his place Martial will play LW and we'd need a striker)
