The kid was probably an asshole, but it's not on video.

The teacher clearly lost control of herself, and needs to go.

No need to take a one side or the other approach.

Edit: And of course some stubborn ass-hats have to try and correct me by saying the teacher is at fault... no shit. Thanks for chiming in. Discuss this further on Tumblr.

but i thought the world was black & white all the times !!

Only on Reddit and FaceBook.

Don't forget youtube comments. Jesus the comments on this video.

And Tumblr. Except it's more like black and racist/sexist.

No, facbook and reddit are white and blue.

One is an adult, and an authority figure. Abuse of power. Inappropriate behavior. She fucked up.

They should fire the kids too. Inappropriate behavior, cellphones out in class, etc.

She snapped a little. It's not like she shot him.

What? I was refuting the previous comment about "no need to take one side or the other". She's the adult, the teacher, the authority figure. She is charged with not acting like a teenager. The kid has no such responsibility.

so kids should be able to do whatever they want without punishment since they're just kids. got it. granted, hitting a student is bad, but someone needs to discipline that special little snowflake at some point in their life.

She got fired, if I'm thinking of the right Texas teacher that smacked a kid.

Teacher is an adult. Kid is a kid. End of discussion.

Kids can't abuse either, amirite.

This comment infuriates me so much.

Why?

Are you saying no kid has ever deserved to get smacked up side the head a few times? I am not saying to beat the shit out of children.

But saying that there is no discussion to be had about this video is insane.

Bruh, she's his teacher, not his mom

A teacher might as well be the kids mom. I bet the teacher sees him more than his parents do.

I am not making that statement about the kids skin color. All teachers see all kids for a huge chunk of time.

My teachers disciplined me when I was a kid. I got rulers to the knuckles and books to the head. And guess who stopped being a little dick in class and grew the fuck up?

Why is everybody all "save the kids" now...

No wonder this shit keeps happening.

Ya but your generation blows so why would we want to make another generation self entitled dickheads.

Defening child abuse in schools, that's a new one.

That's the problem with shit now. People think disciplining a kid is abusing him.

http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/child-and-youth-protection/child-abuse-prevention/discipline-and-punishment-are-not-the-same.cfm

I am not going to argue on what this particular incident was. It seems to walk the line between the two. Her actions were in response to an inappropriate action. But she was clearly responding with anger.

books to the head

Yeah, that's not "discipline."

Fun fact, physical punishment has never been shown as more effective than verbal punishments or the removal of privileges. In fact, it is tied to a metric shit-ton of negative effects. If teachers smacking kids was effective, then you'd have a point, but it isn't so you don't. It's just assaulting a child. Just because they're young doesn't give people the right to physically hurt them.

Yeah, but it's through a narrative between the teacher and mother that discipline is dealt. You don't hit the kid, but if he's a wee shite you let the parents know and hope that they discipline him.

My Mum hit me and my brothers/sisters when we needed it as kids, but it in no way effected how I treated my teachers. I was a bastard to them until I matured myself at about 14/15. If my teacher ever laid hands on me I'd've fucked their career so bad they'd find trouble getting employed at McDonald's. But that has more to do with knowing school policy and whatnot, and not particularly because I hated authority/my teachers

Found the guy who doesn't understand how most of these kind of kids are ignored by their parents and don't give a fuck about school and treat all their teachers like shit.

No, she shouldn't have hit him. Yes, he probably did need it. This is how these kids skirt through school failing almost every class because there is literally no person in their life actually giving them any kind of direction, or correction when they go so far off course.

Bruh, she's his teacher, not his mom

But let's be honest here, his mom probably doesn't give a fuck enough to discipline him.

Doesn't mean it falls to his teacher to physically reprimand him

It's the only thing these kids understand, though. You think giving him ISS/OSS or verbally reprimanding him is going to do anything? If anything getting flustered just shows the kids what buttons of yours to push to get a shitshow started. Shit parents raise these kids to be little narcissists and they band together with their buddies and reinforce eachother's destructive behavior. They're a complete ball and chain on students trying to actually learn and succeed.

you're making no sense, if the kid needs to get "smacked up" it's not up to his teacher.

If he is in her class room causing problems, yes, it is.

That teacher has a responsibility to educate 20 - 30 other students. And he (might have) been making that impossible. What is the teacher to do? Ruin the other 19 - 29 students education or TEACH the kid a lesson that his parents clearly wont teach him.

She could have removed him from the class. I don't think the best option when a kid in class is being disruptive is to smack the shit outta him.

Last time a teacher tried that, the student refused to leave. Then a cop ended up throwing her across the room and this exact same thing happened on reddit. People freaked out and said it was never acceptable.

I agree that the head shots were a bit much, I am just not sure what would work better.

Yes because that incident was the last time someone ever removed a kid from class. No other incident like that has occurred again since that one that had the average results of the student being removed from class. You have proved that it is impossible to safely remove students from class.

The last time? Dude, teachers handle situations like this by escorting students out all the time. Nobody has the right to physically assault a child like that.

Yeah you're right she had no choice but to smack him. Poor lady just had no options.

what is the teacher to do? escort the student out? are you really that ignorant?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyMsboBPecg

Tell me how that works out for you.

yup and that officer was suspended I believe, anymore crappy examples?

She has no right to ever put her hands on a student. Ever. Stop. Fin. There are no arguments to the contrary. She deserves to be fired and brought up on assault charges.

Hi, teacher here! Yes, many kids deserve to be smacked up side the head. Brutally. Kids are shitty, horrible little fuck faces. They are disrespectful dick bags most of the time.

However, teachers cannot smack their students whenever they want to, or when the kid deserves it. This is because students need better reinforcement than that. They need a better example of behavior. They need someone to show them what respect and tolerance means. They need someone to show them patience and understanding. They need something good in their lives.

Most kids, especially those who behave poorly, have shitty parents who either treat them like garbage or indulge them. While the short time that a teacher has these kids in their room won't undo a lifetime of crappy patenting, we can do whatever we can. That means mastering the art of patience and demonstrating control at all times.

In these types of schools shouldn't teachers get a couple of freebies before being fired though? People are bound to snap in these situations.
