Manchester United prospects Indy Boonen and Angel Gomes shine in HUGE Reds win

Belgian Indy Boonen signed for Man Utd last year after joining from Genk. He and fellow talent Angel Gomes were the standouts against Newcastle.

Belgian prospect Indy Boonen had a day to remember, leading Manchester United's under-18s to a 7-1 win over Newcastle with a hat-trick.

The attacking midfielder, who United signed from Genk as a 16-year-old last year, was the main man as the Reds' youngsters racked up their biggest win of the season.

The highly-rated Angel Gomes - who assisted two of the goals - was also among the scorers alongside Zach Dearnley, Tosin Kehinde and Tyler Reid.

United's youth ranks have already provided a number of exhilarating success stories this season with young striker Marcus Rashford and defenders Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Timothy Fosu-Mensah among those making an impact at first-team level.

RoShaun Williams and James Weir trained with the seniors ahead of Sunday's clash with Tottenham.

Boonen is described on the United website as "an attacking midfielder with bags of creativity".

His father Jacky was a professional with Lierse, Lokeren and Beveren and is on record as saying his son is a bigger talent than he was.

“It's like in a dream,” Boonen, now 17, told Het Laatste Nieuws after signing for the Reds last year.

“Of course I will miss my friends but if you want to achieve something then you have to make sacrifices. The training sessions are hard, but I don't feel the tiredness when I realise I have signed for Manchester United."
