I remember watching him play but he didn't feature that much, he was basically a squad player but could play a few positions. Fergie talks about him in his book and says he was great around the dressing room and everybody liked him. Whether he played a lot or not doesn't really matter, he was an important player and even more important person for the club. Fergie knew how to get the best out of certain players.

aye, Fergie could make players look way better than they were. Fortune was the same as blomquist and so many others. Decent but not amazing players who ended up having a large impact on an amazing team.

He still hangs around at OT, I think he has some sort of ambassadorial role, or he just won't go away

Fortune was one of the weaker squad players we had. Someone else in this thread compares him to Blomqvist, but Jesper was easily good enough to start the '99 ECL final. Fortune would never have started that sort of game.

It was either in the 99-00 preseason tour or in the Club World Championship that he scored a couple of decent goals and looked reasonably competent in attack. He was fast and had a good left foot but couldn't really dribble, shoot, or pass: he carried the ball well and was a good athlete.

But he was good defensively and we eventually moved him inside to central midfield (memorably he came on for Keane against Real Madrid when we were losing and Keano was injured. Fergie had to beg Keane to come off, and the first thing Fortnue did was batter into some Real players).

Loved the club and by all accounts a good influence, but not one of our better players.
