[Discussion] Thoughts on Super League? (self.reddevils)

I know this is a post more appropriate for r/soccer, but I was wanted to open this up for discussion among United fans. What do you think of the Super League idea which has been circulating through the press in the last few weeks/months?

One one hand, I detest the idea - if KHR genuinely believes that this is the right thing to do and that it isn't just a greedy ploy to make more money, he should look Ranieri and his Leicester team in the eye and tell them that they don't deserve to play in the top tier of European football.

On the other hand, I have heard some fans' perspectives that they already see the EPL as a sort of quasi-super league. They cite Newcastle - relegation candidates - being able to lure last year's Eredivisie POTY to their side and Stoke recently shelling out 25m for Imbula - something that mid table teams/relegation candidates from other leagues almost certainly wouldn't be able to pull off.

What are your perspectives?

It's essentially a league version of the CL if it happens and directly also devalues that competition as well.

Regular leagues lose value of course.

It'll be the same teams now unless there's relegation and such but, no way with the concept of all money being involved.

Further divide and renders the non super clubs rather irrelevant in top tier football mostly in time.

Terrible idea. KHR is extremely jealous of the PL money, and therefore, he is pushing this Super League. It would destroy football. Football is already dominated by money, and there is a clear difference between the haves and the have-nots. This would further exasperate that difference, so I am vehemently against this concept.

If these "big" clubs don't want smaller clubs like Leicester in the UCL, then they should do a better job in their domestic league, instead of trying to find alternative methods to exclude them from premiere European competitions.

Regardless of team affiliation, I think it's completely unfair to rob a team like Leicester who have worked extremely hard to get into this position.

Furthermore, this is a terrible concept for football and for us. In terms of in general, I actually like watching smaller teams against the big powerhouses. I get to learn more about other leagues, players, and style of play.

In terms of for us, our current squad would get demolished by these big clubs. Bayern and Barcelona would destroy us easily.

It's a load of shit and will ruin football. Just an attempt to make the richer clubs richer, fuck that.
