組市松紋（くみいちまつもん）
歴史的（れきしてき）に世界中（せかいじゅう）で愛（あい）され、日本（にほん）では江戸（えど）時代（じだい）に「市松（いちまつ）模様（もよう）」として広（ひろ）まったチェッカーデザインを、日本（にほん）の伝統（でんとう）色（しょく）である藍（あい）色（いろ）で、粋（いき）な日本（にほん）らしさを描（えが）いた。
形（かたち）の異（こと）なる３種類（しゅるい）の四（し）角形（かくけい）を組（く）み合（あ）わせ、国（くに）や文化（ぶんか）・思想（しそう）などの違（ちが）いを示（しめ）す。違（ちが）いはあっても、超（こ）えてつながり合（あ）うデザインに、「多様性（たようせい）と調和（ちょうわ）」のメッセージを込（こ）め、オリンピック・パラリンピックが多様性（たようせい）を認（みと）め合（あ）い、つながる世界（せかい）を目指（めざ）す場（ば）であることを表（あらわ）した。

つなぐ輪（わ）、広（ひろ）がる和（わ）
選手（せんしゅ）の躍動（やくどう）と観客（かんきゃく）の喜（よろこ）びがつながってひとつの“輪（わ）”となり、世界（せかい）に広（ひろ）がってゆく平和（へいわ）や調和（ちょうわ）の“和（わ）”を表現（ひょうげん）した。
肉体（にくたい）と精神（せいしん）のたくましさ、躍動感（やくどうかん）・スピード感（かん）を込（こ）めたデザインにより、「自己（じこ）ベスト」を目指（めざ）すアスリートの素晴（すば）らしい活躍（かつやく）が世界（せかい）に与（あた）える感動（かんどう）を表（あらわ）す。

俵屋宗達（たわらやそうたつ）の風神雷神図（ふうじんらいじんず）や浅草（あさくさ）雷門（かみなりもん）（風（ふう）神（じん）雷神門（らいじんもん））など、古（ふる）くから日本人（にほんじん）に愛（あい）されてきた風神（ふうじん）・雷神（らいじん）をモチーフに、ゴールテープを切（き）る一瞬（いっしゅん）の躍動感（やくどうかん）や、「自己（じこ）ベスト」を目指（めざ）し、超（こ）えようとする選手（せんしゅ）たちの姿勢（しせい）を描（えが）いたデザイン。雷神（らいじん）の太鼓（たいこ）を花火（はなび）に、風神（ふうじん）の風袋（かぜぶくろ）を虹（にじ）にたとえ、平和（へいわ）、多様性（たようせい）、調和（ちょうわ）への思（おも）いを込（こ）めた。
