As we once again could see, with /r/Rapefugees being quarantined, there is no reason for us as a community put trust into the leadership of reddit. Without notice, or without warning a community can be shut down or thrown into the shadows. And the sad part is that they make money on all these communities, that are built up by the free labour of moderators who run the show and nurture the subreddits to grow.

I therefore want to make sure that everyone knows where to go if they one day see this place gone. So go ahead and bookmark: https://voat.co/v/European. It will be our new home if we were to ever be shut down or quarantined.

Finally I'd like to remind people about one thing. Do not be lazy. Too many are too comfort seeking and don't want change. This is the reason many are happy to moan about issues online but do little to nothing in real life. But this laziness is also visible online. Many simply are too lazy to migrate to a new platform as it's inconvenient. If they shut us down, and by doing so eliminate the last free-speech sub in reddit dedicated to Europe, I do not wish to see a bunch of people continuing to support a site which does not respect basic rights and western values.

Having said this, the administration has thus far always treated us well and fair. But these constant acts of censorship are not giving us any confidence in the future of this site as a whole, and therefore we need to take necessary steps in order to ensure that an open and free debate on European issues can take place.
