First of all, most drag queens don't even see themselves as cis-gendered.

"A binary that consists of a) the 'successful', cis-male drag queens who uphold and 'achieve' the Western beauty ideals placed upon women, and b) all other manifestations of drag that access the art form in any other way."

This is where I stopped reading because people really don't know what they're talking about. Drag is a way to fuck with gender and pressure placed on women. It's not reinforcing that pressure, it's mocking it.

Drag is part of gay culture. We already see the mainstream audience stealing from it with Lip-Sync Battle. This is why Drag Race and Drag isn't mainstream. If it was people would be pissed at Lip-Sync Battle for stealing from Drag Queens without having any Queens on the show.

If cis-women want to do drag, they can. No one is stopping them. But they are not the forefront of Drag and they shouldn't have that representation. A woman putting on wigs and make-up isn't going to piss anyone off, men get beaten and killed for doing that. This is like a spoiled child who has a big bag of candy, sees another kid with a lollipop and demands that they get a lollipop too.

This kind of got my blood boiling- every cliche they could muster. The idea that they are painting gay men who do drag as some sort of entitled group, who have it so easy and are discriminating against women is laughable at best and deeply disrespectful at worse.

There are problems in the world with sexism and women are often mistreated but they can walk down the street in makeup, in heels and in full security of their femininity, and it's celebrated. Try being a man and doing that, believe me, we are not entitled. Even if you aren't a drag queen but you're a feminine boy, the world is not built for us and they let us know that.

Rupaul has clearly made a show to celebrate gay men who do drag. A show that finally showed what we are really like, as 3 dimensional humans, not just stereotypes. Why has it suddenly got to be for everyone, who decrees that this is so?

It may not be what they want to hear but many people like the show because of the transformation. Yes women can drag up but I see women in drag every Friday and Saturday night, I watch the show to see men become goddesses and be celebrated for it.

Drag Race is a game show about gay men in wigs. On occasion, some of those gay men in wigs are in various stages of becoming ladies who may or may not also wear wigs. The former does not mean that the show becomes about the latter. We can't represent all the people in one show. Sorry.
