I feel like an injury ravaged, fatigued squad actually did alright in the CL now that my LvGout rage has subsided.

Still Mourinho in blahblah but we were nowhere near as bad as Real Madrid are tonight.

They also looked amazing against Atletico. Not as black and white as you're making it. We struggled a lot less to break them down than Atletico, we just had awful finishing.

PSV lost their best player to us

Wijnaldum won POTY last year.

Memphis won youth player of the year.

Very few PSV fans thought he was anywhere near ready for us. He'd been in fairly average form since Feb.

The problem is we could've won those games. It's not like Wolfsburg played brilliant football to beat us. We had serious lapses in those games and were sorely lacking in quality. The second loss to Wolfsburg was unforgivable imo. But even worse was the 0-0 against psv. Going out with 8 points does show a bit of bad luck, but by no means did we deserve to go trough playing the way we did.

This should be top comment. People don't look at the performances but would rather look at the name and apply it to every single situation, that isn't how it works. We might have had Barca in our group and beat them, doesn't mean we are the best team in the would. Isn't as 2 tone as that

When you are supposed to be one of the biggest clubs in the world you shouldn't finish third in a group with Wolfsburg, Cska and Psv. We were utter shite like we have been all season.

The squad is nowhere near world class though. How many of our players would actually get in the Wolfsburg team? DDG, Smalling and maybe Martial.

Woodward's shit the bed with transfers.

I mean Newcastle's had a bigger net spend in 2015/16. These are the sort of results I expect from a team whose core players are Blind, Schniederlin, Mata etc.

Net spend. 50m on Martial isn't really impressive if you have to sell Di Maria to finance it.

It's not really LvG's fault Woodward spends 60m on deals he should close for 30m.

LvG's also had to replace Rio, Vidic, Evra and Scholes. Not to mention oversee Rooney and Carrick finally going over the hill. all of whom were propping up a severely neglected squad bereft of world class talent and suffering from chronic underinvestment.

It's not really LvG's fault if he asks for world class defender like Ramos or Hummels and gets Rojo in return.

I'd counter by saying Wolfsburg are 8th in the Bundesliga. Can't just pick and choose results that make what we did look better.
