Life is Strange 2 is a sequel to the acclaimed game, Life is Strange.
About this project
This game features: A truly branching story line reminiscent of choose your own adventure books or tabletop role playing games. 16 different outcomes, because the choices that you make actually matter to the entire city. A new musical mini-game that highlights the music of Syd Matters, composer of the award winning score of Life is Strange. A wide variety of hints to the murder mystery that incorporate not only traditional clues, but also subtle hints incorporated in music and art. New Sketching and painting unlockables that reveals Daniels sketches of the students at Blackwell as well as Kate's water-color and oil paintings. The same attention to detail and dramatic, cinematic story telling that makes the Life is Strange franchise so popular. Superb voice acting by the same team that put together the original Life is Strange. Total immersion in a realistic world where your choices create a different outcome for almost every character. A subtle mystery that can only be solved only by attention to detail. Re-use of the same graphics engine and models as the original game that allow for quicker development time (and lower production costs).
Risks and challenges
Currently Dontnod has no plans to do a sequel, and is working on a totally different (vampire style) game. They have said publicly that if they were to do another game like this, they would go with totally different characters and setting. The theory is that there is no where else to go with the story of Max and Chloe.
However: Life is Strange was such a unique, compelling and moving game that has touched the hearts of so many in a way that few books, movies or games ever have the game continues to have an extremely large and dedicated following.
While the story of Max and Chloe may be at an end, Life is Strange created an immensely large world of extremely well detailed characters; almost any of which would create a compelling story on its own, especially if told with the care and detail of original game. Kate Marsh, for example, continues to find herself pulled in different directions even after the events of the original game.
Life is Strange is so compelling it has almost on its own expanded the game market by pulling in more women and adults of both sexes who don't normally play games. By showing the world that a game that spends time discussing relationships and presents art in interesting ways has helped to bring in an entirely new generation of artists and writers who normally wouldn't be considered "game developers". If the "game market" continues to grow in this manor, then more games of this quality will be made and enjoyed by the whole world.
For these reasons, we believe that Life is Strange 2 not only would be both popular and profitable, but that it would continue to expand and enrich both the game market and the entire world of storytelling and storytellers.
Rules for Crowdfunding Life is Strange 2
In order to ensure fairness and to safeguard the proper use of money, any and all funds will be governed by these rules:
Option One: Approach Dontnod with an offer to fund Life is Strange 2. They must agree these terms: To make Life is Strange 2 in a reasonable amount of time, to use as many of the same writers, voice actors and graphic artists as reasonable, and to honor the commitment to give advance copies of the game (and other goodies) to the original donors of the crowdsourcing fund.
Option Two: If Dontnod is not interested in making a sequel in a reasonable amount of time, then the money will be used to purchase whatever rights needed to the Life is Strange 2 and will sponsor another game developer; again with the same rules of using the same writers and voice as the original game.
