WHEN HAVE WE BROUGHT THROUGH OUTSTANDING ACADEMY PLAYERS SINCE THE CLASS OF 92? HOW MANY?

Everyone is banging on about Mourinho not playing the youth but up until very recently most of our academy players have been mediocre.

Wait, are you saying that our academy is not producing Cristiano Ronaldo level players? Hahaha.

Most of them will never be United caliber and Championship level at best.

"He relies on the chequebook."

So, what? We're Manchester United. We have the money, and we should let him spend it. All big clubs rely on the chequebook. Every single one of them: Barca (bought Turan, Vidal, Neymar and Suarez), Real Madrid (bought their entire XI), Bayern (Thiago, Neuer, Douglas Costa, Boateng, etc) as well.

"The Struggling One"

I completely agree. He has struggled so badly in his career he has managed to only accumulate 2 CL's, 2 Primeira Liga, 3 PL's, 2 Scudetti and a La Liga. That's not even including all the lesser trophies he has won. So, I wonder how good he would be if he wasn't struggling?

Louis Van Gaal has granted 14 debuts to academy products already in his tenure at Manchester United.

And likely only a few of them will make it. Wait, does the team that hands out the most debuts from their academy, get a trophy? Must be the reason why people are so obsessive over youth as we have been trophy-less for three seasons now.

In comparison, Jose Mourinho has given only 23 debuts to players over a span of 15 years with 6 different clubs. Most were loaned out before appearing for the first team. His ego is just larger than any club. He does not build teams for the future but relies more on the chequebook.

Well, that makes sense considering in most of his seasons he has been fighting for the title at each team he was at. He can't just go out handing random debuts which could mean potential points dropped possibly costing him the league. If he came to United, and considering the significantly less pressure of the job right now compared to his previous other teams, he would be more inclined to incorporate academy players into his project. Also, if they really wanted to get obsessive with youth they could insert a rule/agreement into his contract about academy integration. Oh and by the way, LVG hands out debuts by necessity rather than out of good-will.

can the mods just delete every Jose thread unless its directly from the club?

It's OK to not want Mourinho but don't pretend he's a bad manager.

I'm in a small camp where I wouldn't mind if LvG stays for a third year but I'd still prefer Mourinho. Not saying Mourinho will solve all our problems but he's one of this generations great managers. Even the likes of Arsenal fans who hate him will admit that

van Gaal has only given so many academy players debuts because of injuries. Do you really think Blackett, McNair, Love, Rashford or TFM or any other academy graduate would have played if we didn't have the equivalent of a full starting 11 of injuries? Wilson, arguably our best academy prospect was loaned out rather than given a go in the first team. Debuts of necessity should not be considered a managerial triumph, rather, ineptitude for not having sufficient cover for the first team. As good as Rashford is,do you really think any other title challenging team (because that's what we should be) would have to rely on an unproven teenager for their brightest part of an otherwise dour season?
