Melee's community is probably the most toxic smash community out there. This is coming from my personal experience on anther's ladder.

Do you have examples? Anthers has been a mostly positive experience for me, excluding mild bursts of salt from some.

It's awful overall. People flame each other on pretty much all of the ladders. They're probably obsessed about their rank.

I play anthers pretty regularly and haven't experienced much negativity. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I haven't seen any.

If you stomp people too hard they usually send angry / hateful comments after games.

Indeed, which is why vilifying an entire community based on some loud angry pricks, when in quite literally every single group of fans for anything ever there is a baseline group of completely toxic pieces of shit, is mindblowingly shortminded.

Ok so i mostly play Brawl but i really like all the games. I often see people saying "lol brawl" or "people still play this?" or "tripping" in Brawl's chat. I've also played against a dude in Melee who was significantly better than me because of my little experience with the game. Whenever i took a stock from him, he resets the match because he just wants to 4 stock me, and when i did the same, he started taunting me and typing rude things in the chat, then resorted to racial slurs after i responded to him. This never happened to me whenever i play Sm4sh even though i get bodied harder than that.

I mean, you can't base the entire melee community on your experience with a single player on anther's. There's a report function, did you report him? The goal of anther's ladder is for a positive smash-playing experience, so I'm sure if you or someone else reported him, he or she would be banned. As for the brawl jokes, those arent good, but how do you know melee players are the ones saying those? A lot of people have disdain for brawl (and melee and smash 4, but there's enough people in those chats to drown that out), there's no real way to know what those players' game preferences were.

I can't base the entire melee community off a single experience, but how about twitch chat (Melee callout usually happens in response to Sm4sh callout) ? how about people chanting Mango in Sm4sh GF ? It has always been either Melee vs Brawl, or Melee vs Sm4sh (after Brawl lost its relevance). Heck, i've even seen hate on PM because of how different the MUs are in that game.

Twitch chat is the way it is because anyone can say anything anonymously and it will be whisked away in a flurry of other random crap. Twitch chat is not something to be taken seriously: its just a funny little thing to go along with streams. If it bothers you, you can turn it off.

I actually haven't seen the mango chanting video, do you have a link? I'd like to watch it to give my opinion on it.

Also it's completely fair to hate on a game if you think it's not good. If people don't like project m they don't have to.

Twitch chat should be taken seriously because the anonymity allows people to express their real, deep-seated opinions and thoughts. People really are that ugly and disgusting inside.

Twitch chat in big streams is people posting and copy pasting memes, emotes, and inflammatory bullshit. I don't enjoy it so I turn it off. I'd suggest you do the same, especially if you're convinced that the dumb shit that gets posted in there means anything.

Twitch chat is cancerous in every community, In big tourneys I see people bashing on melee on twitch chat when smash 4 is being streamed.

If you take Twitch chat seriously then you have larger problems than the Melee community being "toxic".

That's like saying that since I faced a player in Smash 4 who punched pushed another guy to the ground after getting beat by him in GF's that the entire Smash 4 community is violent and toxic.

Or that because I've seen one memer in Twitch chat say "tr4sh ResidentSleeper" so the entire Melee community is terrible and fucked up.

The Melee community and anthers ladder are separate. Anthers is mostly positive, but the salt on there is 50x worse than anything you'll see irl. Personally I see it the most from the falcon players.

I get it the worst from Marths, usually. Something about the Falcon / Game and Watch vs Marth matchup just makes people so mad.

Falco players get so salty. I feed on salt tho. So many people on Anther's use Marth or Falco.
