I was an Esam fan before this, because he seemed like a genuinely nice dude. I even really enjoyed his Smash 4 content, despite being uniquely a Melee/PM player. But his behaviour since the voting opened (and this post especially) has been super unflattering. It's like when that chill uncle from your childhood comes to Thanksgiving dinner except he's super drunk, and you realize he was always kind of a dick deep down.

I thought he was kinda funny when I first saw him on stream and I followed him on twitter. After a couple of months I had to unfollow because of some of the stuff he was saying (mainly the way he was saying it.)

He was always quick to mention he's a really nice guy too. Or at least how he was nice in person, which I don't doubt, but on twitter he's got a real big mouth.

I dunno. I don't try to dislike people. I'm just sharing my experience because everyone else is.

I think he understands how being controversial can bring someone attention, and is purposely saying things to incite that for the possible e-fame. The problem is that he's not doing it right, and will lose fans because of this.

I don't think he will lose fans because of this because his fans are all smash 4 players that have been blindly campaigning on twitter without considering what this tournament means to the Melee community anyway.

That sounds like a dangerous amount of speculation there. Esam really doesn't need any attention - he's a very well known player with a relatively large fanbase, after all. His whole essay here seems more like venting than anything, and I think it's a bit disingenuous to accuse him of milking this for attention.

I also don't think there's much of a point in him going other than growing his brand. But if that's the kinda thing summit wants then not much i can do.

Although id be pissed if Hax and lucky don't make it.

I'm honestly surprised anyone is offended by this. He drops a few F-bombs and pokes fun at reddit being a circlejerk(which is reddit's common opinion on itself)

The most plausibly offensive thing there is "Fuck you guys," and that's only because it's directed at the people causing a shitshow just because he's nominated(look at this thread and tell me there's no defensive lashing and vitriol), and because it's stripped of the followup.

|I'm doing this not for you to like me, but for me to get better so I can actually get good at the game I love 2nd most (Next to Smash4).

So I guess yes, if you're the people his "fuck you" refers to, I guess you could think of him as a dick, but maybe look in the mirror first.

Both sides started slinging shit at the exact same time or nearly that. ESAM is a self-proclaimed PR person and is regularly referred to as the nice guy or at least deferred that persona by those that follow him and he has been milking it for all it's worth. Now, that's not a bad thing and I fully support it but that means that when his mask starts sleeping people like us get to call him out on it.

Yes, the difference is that nice guys don't throw shit back. You can refuse to be a doormat while still not coming across as a douche yourself or shitting on people in return like ESAM did. The point is that stooping to a douchebags level makes you a douchebag too.

Once again, I don't care that he has the persona in the first place and when it comes to his gameplay I quite like him but people who milk it like ESAM don't get to evade the callout and play the victim just because others are just as bad if not worse. That's not how life works.

I'm not referring to anything specific that was directed at anyone, but rather the overall negative and juvenile tone of this post. If, as you claim in another post, ESAM has made no secret of his willingness to act this way when push comes to shove, then I guess I'm just not very perceptive and I shouldn't really have been a fan of his in the first place.

Lol it's 2016 and people still think like this. If you were in his shoes, you wouldn't be able to take it.

He IS a nice guy, but understand this. He is human. And last time I checked, humans not only have feelings, but aren't invincible. He shows he has an ego, but the ego is for the right reasons. His ego is because he knows he worked hard for the people, had shown he can back up his information, and has a solid following for being who he is. You can't just accept only his good side. That's dumb. His bad side isn't even that bad. And he's going to continue giving back to the community whether you stop following him or not.

Thing is.. people get better and learn by going to events that have better people. In a way this smash summit is a means for esam to become a top melee player and if he wants to get better he should be able to use any means ethically possible without extreme defamation or harassment.
