No, it IS an opinion, even if it's justified or not, it's STILL opinion.
Opinion: n: a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
TLDR: Opinion =/= fact. Square Enix isn't dead and still can and
does put out good games. (They also do put out some rather lame ones too though...)
Just because you don't like Kingdom Hearts, doesn't mean it's a bad game, just like the opinion that Final Fantasy is 'destroyed'.
Yes, it's had some downs, but I know plenty of people that absolutely loathe earlier final fantasies (the video game Reviewer Spoony comes to mind when thinking about X and VIII) Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't mean that they're 'button mashing RPG fans'.
Game franchises have their low and high points. It's that simple. It's not like it's the 'end' or that one should wish SE burns to the ground, especially considering they still put out some fantastic games Like Deus Ex and Tomb Raider (The reboot).
FF XIV Realm Reborn IS an MMO, that's the entire point. It's not
meant to be a classic Final Fantasy and if you think it is, you're missing the point of the game.
Try the Upcoming remake of FFVII or Type 0. Perhaps the upcoming Deus Ex, or any
number of titles that show promise.
Furthermore, experimenting with new concepts is what gave Final Fantasy many of its strengths in the first place, it's bound to happen that not every idea works out.
Have a relatively lazy example list.
Final Fantasy I: Basic Dungeons and Dragons esque adventure with a reference to the hero of time.
Final Fantasy II: No actual levels, but increasing stats by using that stat over and over, no jobs.
Final Fantasy III: The Job System, more story focus
Final Fantasy IV: Characters have set jobs, and a heavy focus on story, ATB
Final Fantasy V: Okay, so this did do a lot of refinement of the last two, but not a lot of risks. Possibly my least favorite of the earlier final fantasies (tied with III)
Final Fantasy VI: A refinement of the IV formula but with a few new twists, storywise, this has been fascinating to play through so far
Final Fantasy VII: Science Fiction Meets Magic and looks good doing it. Talk about a risk in and of itself. Materia system, etc
Final Fantasy VIII: Junction System, Levels not actually needed and in some ways are arguably bad to get. Personally my favorite combat system of the psx final fantasies
Final Fantasy IX: Return to the old school Final Fantasy concepts. Decent, but far from my top 5.
Final Fantasy X: Sphere Grid, Summons taking the battlefield, No ATB but turn based on AGI stat, etc
Final Fantasy X-2: Erm, ATB job system that allows for in battle changes? (Ngl, I find the battle system endlessly entertaining even if the game is 'eh' a lot of the time.)
Final Fantasy XI: Final Fantasy Meets MMO.
Final Fantasy XII: Gambit System means that you now tell your party what to do and sit back and enjoy your tactical genius (or are bored as I was.)
Final Fantasy XIII: Confession time: I haven't played so I can't comment.
Final Fantasy XIII-2: This one... Kinda confuses me more than a bit.
Final Fantasy XIII Lightning's Return: I've only played the demo
Final Fantasy XIV: MMO
Not to mention their other projects like Dissidia and so on.
In closing: Square Enix is far from dead and they've got plenty of creative juices left to use if given a chance. Call em out on their stupid sure, but when they do things right, respect it.
