10' Ten minutes in and both teams are feeling each other out. Everton do look dangerous while attacking though, mostly coming down Rojo's side.

15' There haven't been any major chances either way but Everton are certainly up for this.

17' Martial comes close! Martial and Lingard play a one-two and it leads to Martial smacking a shot across goal (that was deflected slightly off Baines) just wide of the far post. Should've been a corner but it's a goal-kick.

24' Rojo gets excited and tries to volley a Mata cross from about 30 yards out, near the corner of the box but it's nowhere near the contact he would've needed.

29' Lukaku has been a nuisance with his physicality and he's bullying our centre backs. Rashford and Martial are doing the same on the other side using their pace.

34' United have been putting Everton under a lot of pressure in the past five minutes but there's been a lack of good chances at goal.

37' Martial has been looking particularly bright today. Everton's tactic has been long balls over the top to Lukaku but thankfully De Gea has been off his line rapidly numerous times to snuff that out.

LVG does the right thing and takes him off at half-time before Everton gets a goal by exploiting that side even more and people complain about a full-back substitution.

His thinking is that firstly Deulofeu was running rings around Rojo, TFM will (should) be able to deal with that threat easier.

Secondly Rojo was contributing nothing in terms of building up play and since in the final third we weren't terrible at creating chances, in his opinion the weakest area for building up play was left back. He likes it to happen transitionally as opposed to skipping stages.

Except when Fella is on of course.

Edit: So in Van Gaal's opinion, fixing weak links in his 'philosophy' should help us to create more chances than simply bringing on a player who is actually doing his job better than another.

Agreed. I would like to see Young come in on the right and Darmian switch to the left. Rojo likely will be gassed but 60 minutes. Darmian should be able to stop Deulofeu and they aren't attacking on the other half of the pitch. Should allow us to attack more.
