That's a shame. They got the sub through a reddit request - nothing shady really, just a shame.

Someone should work on getting all of his comments backed up on archive.is unless there is a better way. Maybe the whole subreddit is accessible through another Internet archive site already.

So we can just takeover subs if we send a request? Can I borrow reddit? I want to get Teddy Ruxpin elected president so if I could borrow it for like 2 weeks I think that would do it.

Yeah its a pretty common tactic. Keep a list of "valued" sub reddit names (things that can be monetized) or any sub with inactive mods etc. and get the sub. Then just setup a bot to randomly spam to it once a month to keep it active.

Perfect example: Someone is requesting the sub r/Jordans . Pretty sure that will make the person some money.

Also getting mods banned on a sub, then requesting the sub happens too.

I don't think that's 100% accurate. You can't get a subreddit that has a moderator that has been active in any way (commenting anywhere on reddit, etc) in the past couple months, I forget how long. Banned moderators can still squat a subreddit I believe.

it's supposed to be that if the sub is "abandoned" for 6 months (or something like that) that somebody could take it over if you seemed like you would do good things for it.

obviously this didn't happen in this case.

This is unreal. What a world we live in.

Reddit was sold out, been taken over by corporate interests that have been feeding the globalist multi-cultural culture destroying sanctimonious SKW type trolls. What do you expect. It's one of the reasons why I like the /r/northamerican and /r/European subs in spite of their sometimes overt racism, because they are free speech subs. That's one of the slight discomforts that the left really can't deal with when you want a free society that some people are going to say things that aren't your favorite thing to hear. I would defend someone's right to be racist if that's the price for freedom. Controlling the speech out os sanctimonious self-righteousness is nothing but an affront to freedom. It really says a lot that Reddit and the cancerous mods have such little respect for people's freedom that they can't even allow for the site and community to function the way it should by letting ideas and discussions develop through voting based on topic relevance and not out of popularity or even just blatantly curating and sanitizing conversations.

How do people take over like this? Is the top mod giving it to them?

[–]The_Cheekiest_Breeki 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yes, I would like to control ShitRedditSays, MensLib, Ghazi, me_irl, Offmychest and Politics

[–]lowercase_capitalist 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

I can't find it on there?

Look at the user's submitted posts.

Not a problem. Their immaturity and trolling will be their own downfall.

It's perfectly allowed. Still it speaks to the quality of the person censoring it.

What the FUCK.

Edit: I just left this comment on the oh-so-conveniently timed Transparency thread by the admins

Destroying a library is some ISIS type shit.

SJW's and ISIS have more in common than most people realize

Others have already said, this is how Reddit works. Inactive mod redditrequest.

That being said,

I have scripts that allow me to make complete offline backups of subs. It gets all posts and can get comments as well.

If there are any subs someone would like to see backed up let me know, and I'll scan them for you.

Example: My scan of /r/seedboxes

Can you scan /u/-moose-'s entire profile?

No. I can get their last 1000 submissions and comments though.

The trick used to bypass that limit on subreddits does not work for user accounts.

Good enough for me. Let me know if you do it.

You can get a bit more than 1000 if you "sort by" (and sorting time interval) their comments different ways. For example, "top" from "all time" will cough up some that don't show up in the 1000 newest.

Apparently PRAW updated a week ago and something changed. Turning my script on a user only gathers their post history now instead of comments/posts. Probably something minor since it still runs. I'll try and fix later.

You can also use something like redective.com

I'm a bot, bleep, bloop. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:

If you follow any of the above links, please respect the rules of reddit and don't vote in the other threads. (Info / Contact)

The owner of the sub left and didn't hand it over to someone to run it. This is how reddit works. If you don't want someone you don't like taking over a subreddit then you need to request it first.
