The drug price is so insignificant compared to the expenditures of insurance. It's not even a blip on the radar. Drugs themselves are a very small portion of overall insurance costs. In addition to that, there are tons of drug companies with medication with a much higher price than Deraprin.

I understand this, but if someone with toxoplasmosis, reports that they have the illness to their insurer wont they have to pay more for Daraprim/higher copay (than when it was 13.50/pill)?

I'm pretty confident that copays are fixed and should not changed based on drug.

Another thing I want to get straight is that no one has been deprived, correct? my friends keep saying hes depriving uninsured people but i cant seem to find one person who he deprived.

You're not alone; the media has been unable to find one person deprived of the drug. I'm pretty sure that your friend hasn't found anyone either.

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me! My friends and I were talking about this and i bet them $5 i could prove to them that shkreli is a good guy who did nothing wrong, that question about insurance was the one that stumped me so i think now i have a good explanation for it

No problem. I think the onus is on your friend to prove Martin is a bad person. The truth of the matter is that Martin expanded access to the drug, not limited it. The drug is actually a pretty shitty one, as Shkreli admits. It does a great job killing the parasite, but it also kills the person itself as well. He raised the price to find a way to make the drug better. The drug is very old and it's not profitable. Without Martin, I would venture to say that less people would have less access to it, since no one can make money on it as is. If you listen to Martin Shkreli's live streams, you can see how passionate he is for those who suffer from toxoplasmosis.
