Remember CES 2015? LG set the house on fire with the Snapdragon 810-powered G Flex 2, Asus lifted the Zenfone 2 onstage using its gigabytes of bloatware, and Saygus returned after five years of clearing out their vaporious video-calling Vphone to show off the V2. The V2 had everything Android enthusiasts were asking for: a 5" 1080p "bezel-less" display with Gorilla Glass 4, 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801, 3GB RAM, 64GB storage, front and back OIS cameras with 4K video recording, front-facing speakers, fingerprint reader, 3100mAh replaceable battery, dual MicroSD slots, booting from external storage, IR Blaster, NFC, QI wireless charging, a ridiculous number of LTE bands, GSM and CDMA support, HDMI out over MicroUSB, noise cancellation, IPX7 water resistance, 60GHz screen mirroring, metal sides, kevlar back, "fractal antenna" on the back, and physical shutter key - all for $600. It sounded too good to be true. And it actually might be.

After the announcement, hype reached stratospheric levels. Preorders opened up in February and consumers poured in to claim a $50 discount on this "dream phone" that would ship in "late March". But then shipments were delayed to May 22, with a free headset thrown in for the delay. And then the V2 was delayed indeterminably. And then Saygus somehow delayed it again and launched an Indiegogo campaign. They swapped the MicroUSB with MHL port with a USB Type C port and added a second SIM slot. Afterwards they added a chip that changes the contrast of the screen in direct sunlight to aid visibility.

Saygus has not disappeared, however. They have posted batches of videos showing the features and new hardware and posted to their Twitter account on a semi-regular basis. Their last tweet, almost a month ago, said they would ship by "late October". Will Saygus pull through? They have stayed relatively active on social media and have posted videos showing hardware with the new "sunlight chip" and dual SIM slots. I remain hopeful that they can pull through and release a phone that is still very relevant ten months later. What does /r/Android think?

Edit 2: I didn't notice Saygus had posted an update to Indiegogo. They said:

We are grateful for your continued support! We apologize for the lack of updates. We have been busy building our amazing smartphone. No one has attempted to construct a phone of this caliber; it is a challenging undertaking. But in the end, the phone will speak for itself.

We did have some challenges due to procuring and then integrating and tuning some of the high-end components, especially the cameras. However, we have completed these phases and phones are currently being manufactured. We anticipate completing the FCC and CE certification processes soon and upon their respective approvals, we will begin shipping immediately to all supporters around the world.
