There's some weird stuff in their spec sheet.

Wireless Qi Charging Built-inPower Saving Chip – 50% Improved Battery Life*

What is this magical chip that gives 50% more battery life and what does that have to do with Qi-Charging? Maybe those were meant to be two separate sentences..?

2.5Ghz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon™

And which Snapdragon would this be?

Sunlight Viewable Screen*

And how is this different than any other device?

To be blunt I can't wait to hear back from the fools that rushed out to preorder the almost $600 phone from OEM almost no one has ever heard of. I'm sure this will be down voted a lot but I don't care, these people let themselves get swept up in CES hype.

I hope that you're proven wrong because I like the concept of high-spec phones delivered in compact packages. If the Saygus V2 succeeds, not only will it be a trend against the carrier rules, but also the continued trend of shipping phones that are world-unlocked as well as developer friendly. I There is a better future in you being wrong, versus being right because if you are right, then nothing changes.

Well aren't you a bright ray of sunshine

Take what you said and replace the name of this phone with "One Plus One", " nexus 4/5/6", or "Xioami M8 (is that a phone?)" and you should immediately see why this argument is overly idealistic to a fault.

I preordered and plan to do a full review when I get it. And if it's a piece of shit I'm sending it back within the 14 day window. Put it on the plastic too. You've got to take a risk some time ya know?

These phones are all outsource manufactured in China by companies that build smartphones millions at a time. I seriously doubt that these people are doing their own integration in a garage somewhere.

This isn't the 80's and they are not building apple computers with soldering irons and needle nose pliers. They are not the first unheard of company selling a smartphone recently. The Oneplus one has been getting great reviews and nobody heard of them until recently.

I'm guessing qi and power saving are two different features that got mushed together, CPU is probably a S801, display might have a greater brightness than others.

The power management of the entire device is usually handled by the chip maker. Usually when you order a Qualcomm solution for your mobile platforms, you usually opt for the package(which is the SoC, which includes the CPU, GPU, DAC, Wi-Fi, Modem, etcetera) and most importantly the PMIC(Power Management Integrated Chip) chip which is responsible for managing battery usage.). Like Motorola, it is possible that Saygus might have opted for a in-house PMIC(or something similar) or sourced it from a 3rd party we've not heard of till now. This is all speculation of-course.

I'm talking about how it's written as "wireless qi charging built-in power saving chip ~ 50% improved battery life*" which implies that there's dedicated power saving hardware for wireless charging. But more likely is that there's wireless charging and a built-in power saving chip. Not how they're both in the same device.

[–]LordPandamoniumHTC One m7 Sense 7 2

According to Phone Arena, it should be a Snapdragon 801 SOC

It's possible they made a matte coating for the screen?

I never believe battery life specs. They say they are using a battery power saver device but that is nothing new either as far as I know. You are correct that there is no magic fairly dust when it comes to batteries.

Here is some more info about the phone including a hands on video. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Saygus-V2-hands-on_id64487

Can the mods mark this as false/rumour?

[–]TheOriginalGioSony Xperia Z5 6

I might be getting a review unit, what would you guys like to see specifically?

Camera/Video Samples would be great! I guess the audio quality of the external speakers and how the battery holds up also. Thanks!

[–]TheOriginalGioSony Xperia Z5 3

Sounds good, I'll be sure to cover those things! I have a friend with the m8, maybe I can compare the front firing speakers!

Awesome! I have an M7 and I feel like I couldn't own another phone without front facing speakers.

[–]TheOriginalGioSony Xperia Z5 2

I know how you feel, after trying my friend's phone it feels dumb having a speaker on the back xD

I'd like to see if it lives up to the hype.

  • It's supposedly "rugged" and has a kevlar case - but then again you can get kevlar bootlaces and dog toys, and those both suck (its main perk is tensile strength, not abrasion resistance). Does the toughness hold up?
  • Water resistance - it says a meter of water for a long time - can it really handle it? More importantly, can it handle a couple drops and lot lose its water resistant properties? I could easily see the thing being genuinely water resistant new, but after a decent amount of handling, having some joints leak that were supposed to be watertight
  • Benchmarks

I'd love to see video footage of taking pictures to see shutter lag and camera interface. Quality/speed of camera app is just as important as quality of photo.

What is the approximate ship date of the V²? Expected shipping in 6-8 weeks

So we have a few more weeks

How can they be shipping when it's in pre-order status?

https://www.saygus.com/shop/

Shipping and Handling: Shipping options will be provided to you via email when your order is ready to ship.

What is the approximate ship date of the V²? Expected shipping in 6-8 weeks. We will notify customers in March on an exact ship date.

What bands does this support

It's in the FAQ. Pretty much all of them as far as I can tell.

Which cellular bands will the V² work on?

The V² will work on all the carrier networks in the world.

GSM: Quad band(850/900/1800/1900MHz)

CDMA: 850/1900MHz

UMTS: Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8

LTE: Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 40

So... What bands doesn't it support? ;-)

Yes.

[–]TahnsSony Xperia Z3 4

No AWS 700, 1900

It does support all these bands. AWS is band 4, 700 MHz is 12,13,17. 1900 MHz is band 2.

Frequency notation is outdated, the right way to specify bands is to use band numbers because there could be many bands within a frequency range and not all of them could be supported.

It sounds like they're using a CMOS PA.

The "gaming laptop" for smartphones! Can't wait for reviews to start coming out!

The image they use looks like they copied touchwiz icons. It's a mother fucken sad shame basically zero OEMS can't just make a pure stock phone with these specs. Specifically the removable battery and SD card support.

It's weird because the live demos show stock icons. They just have bad photoshop skills lol

Except I can't find anywhere it says the phone is shipping. Not on Twitter. Not on their site. Not in my inbox, despite them updating me every step of the way. I'm gonna need some proof on this one.

[–]The-RespawnerNexus 6P [And I am loving it!] 2ポイント3ポイント  (3子コメント)

Why does it had the Samsung Touchwiz app icons?

It's a shitty shop, the whole UI is touchwiz

[–]The-RespawnerNexus 6P [And I am loving it!] 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

That's kinda scary. They made this whole device, but they used a shitty shop with content from another manufactorer for their display photo on their website?

Eh it happens. They likely hired someone outside of the company. The same thing happened a while ago with a Google commercial: a shitty shop of a nexus 7 made the screen look bigger and it started a slew of rumors for a nexus 8

What exactly makes it a "superphone"?

It has two light sensors for better autobrightness.

Well that price certainly is disappointing, almost $500. Why can't there be one of these non-chinese sub $200 phones with a removable battery.

That is one seriously thick and ugly phone.

It has a lot of bezel area for an "edge-to-edge" display

Will it work on verizon?

[–]waldo_wigglesworth 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

No. They make a Verizon version later, but not yet.

I have the same question. Can I pop my sim in it right now on Verizon or would I have to wait?

I don't understand what the fuss is about, in reality no one will use all the features that this phone has.

I don't understand either. I'll use the qi, the OIS camera, the removable battery, one SD card full of roms and one full of music and videos. Why would anyone use all of these features? I mean so many other phones have removable batteries, dual SD card slots, and QI in one.
