Queens who are hot white boys out of drag will always be defended by this subreddit, which is how Derrick, Laila and Pearl have the rabid fanbases that they do despite being charisma black holes and complete non-entities*.

(*On the show. Don't know any of these girls IRL)

EDIT: Also this subreddit is 25% more ready to hate on a black queen at any given time, and 25% less likely to hate on a hot white boy queen. Bob's makeup and looks are always busted but don't you dare criticise Derrick!

Yeah I use "hot" super loosely here. Any youngish white queen who isn't actively hideous has a prefab fan base.

I genuinely don't think Bob's makeup skills are as good as the others. That being said Derrick just seems to replicate the 'Britney makeup' and it's getting old. Derrick has been criticised a lot on here for many reasons...prob some warranted and some not. I don't think it's about race. Thorgy is critised the least and is a white (some would say not hot....although I think he's cute) guy with dreadlocks ?!!! Try and work that little conundrum out.

(Reading this back I sound snarky but I'm not. I just don't think it's about race at all. A talented queen is a talented queen at the end of the day).

It's not necessarily about outright hate so much as it is about a queen occupying space in the reddit. Derrick is such a flatline queen in terms of personality, looks, drag style... she has excelled at nothing (unless you count the photo in the first mini challenge, which I don't). And yet she's one of those queens that gets talked about over and over and overrrrrrr

I suppose so. So are you saying that we .... unwittingly(?) don't give as much attention to black queens in comparison to white queens? I personally feel it was more to do with the individuals actions/or lack thereof on the show...particularly in this season.

I think it's more... if we use average white queens as a baseline, then "hot" white queens probably get about 20% more attention overall, and black queens get about 20% less. People are DEFINITELY more critical and less forgiving of the black queens in general. See also: how Bob slays all the challenges and never looks that bad and yet the conversation is always and only "Bob looks busted".

I don't really see it that way. I think Bob gets that because the expectations at the start of the season were so high. Chi Chi on the other hand has got very good comments on here due to lower expectations. I guess we'd need one of our mathematics experts to truly break down who gets the most attention etc. However, there are so many variables as to why this is the case that it's impossible to tell. Also, in this theory how are other skin tones/ethnic groups fairing? Kim Chi... ? Cynthia?

Yeah I wouldn't say this is scientific by any means (unpopular "opinions" after all). Just that having been on this reddit for a few seasons now, it always seems like the non-White queens have a lot more to prove.

Kim, Bob and Derrick were each put on a huge pedestal before the season began, and each of them has failed to live up to expectations (because of course they did, people thought Bob was going to be the second coming), but while Kim and Bob have both been stronger and more distinctive than Derrick, they don't have half the apologists.

Okay, I can see it as a possibility especially as a whole societal issue with race. But as I said...in this season I don't think it is that way.

He's the darling of the subreddit! The conversation is almost always on how talented he is. In fact, the opinion "Bob looks busted," is above you in this unpopular opinion thread.

I think this might be truer of the fanbase at large than the Reddit fanbase tbh. More people on here seem to dislike Pearl and Derrick than like.

And yet Derrick still has all this attention on the sub despite being just the dictionary definition of mediocrity in everything she's done on the show so far. Whether you're pro-Derrick or anti-Derrick, she has all this attention and she's barely performed better than, say, Dax.

But what you said is that Pearl and Derrick are more well liked because they're attractive white men, not that they get more attention. In my experience, while Derrick does get plenty of attention, most of it is negative, not positive.

I think Dax got a lot of attention before she was kicked off (SO MANY people were worried she was getting the "Kandy Ho edit"). Similarly, Chi Chi is getting tons of attention, Kennedy and Jasmine get tons of attention, etc. This is different than being well-liked or not.

LOTS of generalization and truthiness going on with this statement. Reads as divisive, nasty and racist. How does this have people go "Oh, yeah totally, let me look at that and check my critiques!"???

AND not wholly accurate.

For me, what there is to do is call it out for what it is. Bob's looks and make up are creative, fun and not passe AND he's HOT out of drag too - and there is A LOT to criticize about Derrick in drag and OUT of drag.
