Episode Three – Who would win between France’s Starting XI and their Subs Bench?

Migsy is off to make a name for himself in the big city for the next few weeks so we’ll hold the fort for him in his absence. This week, its the original trio – Jon, Robin and Paddy – who are collectively greasing the mic.

As ever, the team discuss a number of Talking Points:

  • 20,000 Leagues Under the Prem – A Potted History of Gloucester City

After one of our loyal fans contacted us this week asking for a shout-out for Gloucester City, there was little we could do than send our Non-League Specialist, Simon ‘Paddy’ Statterson, to do some investigative journalism. We learn of the infamous Gloucester Floods of 2007, the erstwhile manager of Sierra Leone who began his managerial career at Gloucester, and the World of Smiles Stadium which became the new home of Gloucester after their watery woes.

  • Put Johans Together for Cruyff – Did Cruyff Turn European Football around?

After the sad news this week of the death of Johan Cruyff, Jon asked the team whether they thought that Cruyff really was the greatest European player.

  • Hype-notised by England? Can’t we just go into a tournament with our feet on the ground?

England, England, England. It’s all Robin seems to speak about these days. And it’s all everyone seems to speak about. One good game and their fans have them nailed on to win the next major tournament. Robin asks about the hype: is it justified? and what about Wayne Rooney?

They then take up the Question that No One is Asking:

Who would win between France’s Starting XI and their Subs Bench?

The lineups for both sides can be found here.

Episode Two – Who are the best current XI of uncapped English players?

Robin was gravely ill this week and so it was up to Jon, Migsy and Paddy to steer the ship.

As usual, the team discussed a number of Talking Points:

  • This is a Serious Show… Puns are Benitez – Revisiting Rafa’s Newcastle

The team briefly looked at the Tyne and Wear derby to see whether our suspicions about Benitez from the last show had been confirmed in any way.

  • More like Manchester Sh*tty – What does the future hold for Guardiola’s intended?

Migsy was keen to talk about Manchester City in the wake of their drop in form culminating in the dismal derby match against United. Will City manage to cling on to a Champions League spot? And, if not, what will the future hold for them?

  • Klopp til you Drop? Are Liverpool’s erratic performances the fault of their manager?

Jon wondered whether or not the team thought that the eleven points that Klopp’s Liverpool have dropped from winning positions could be ascribed to the manager. Should Klopp simply bide his time with his new team until next season rather than risking more dropped points before the end of the season.

  • In Search of Lost Time – Shouldn’t football take a back seat when atrocities occur?

Paddy turned out attention to the Guardian article yesterday which reported a UEFA official’s suggestion that Euro 16 could be played behind closed doors. Why, he wanted to know, do the footballing media feel the need to impose football onto the broader narratives of the world? And are they right to do so?

They then took up the Question that No One is Asking:

Who are the best current XI of uncapped England players?

You can see the final teams that we drew up here and you can vote for the one you think is best here.

Episode One – Could Newcastle have got a better manager than Rafael Benitez?

This week Jon, Paddy, Migsy and Robin wield the mics for the first episode of the podcast.

(Due to a technical problem, the sound quality this week is not quite up to our high standards, for which we apologise profusely)

The team discuss a number of Talking Points:

  • I’m on the High Roid… Drugs in Scotland

Paddy addresses the issues thrown up by the recent BBC article which revealed the lack of regular drug tests in Scottish football.

  • Dead and Boro-ed? Aitor Karanka’s Woes

Migsy asks the team what their thoughts are on the situation at Middlesbrough. How can a team that were flying in the league go wrong in such dramatic fashion.

  • Luka-coup? Is Romelu pulling the wool over our eyes?

Jon responds to his Twitter gaffe this week by asking ‘Are Lukaku’s statistics due in part to the fact that he is serviced by a team who are more committed to attacking than defending?’. These stats, though, are hard to argue against.

  • I Gotta Get Outta This Place – Players who thrive out of the Premier League

Robin turned our attention to the recent Guardian piece which looked at the most influential transfers in the foreign leagues this season. Why, he asked, were the majority of these players individuals who had struggled in the Premier League?  And how could their recent upturn in form be explained?

The team then moved on to answer the Question that No One is Asking, which this week was:

Could Newcastle have got a better manager than Rafael Benitez?

Pilot Episode – How good would a team of John O’Sheas actually be?

Jon, Paddy and Robin are on the panel this week for what is the Pilot Episode of the podcast.

The team discuss three points from the weekend’s football:

* Palace and Pardew
* Dimitri Payet and the French Invasion
* Two Yellows don’t make a Red?

Before turning to answer the question no one is asking:

How good would a team of John O’Sheas actually be?
