AskHistorians 内の Georgy_K_Zhukov によるリンク Answer the Call! Apply for Flair TODAY! - The Panel of Historians XII

[–]Georgy_K_Zhukov[S,M] 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Hello and thank you for your interest in getting flair. Unfortunately we aren't quite ready to grant it at this time. Your posts show that you are enthusiastic about the topic, but what they are lacking is a showcase of your ability to really drill down into the nitty-gritty. Certainly in some cases, they are simply questions which are pretty straight forward, but to be frank those aren't really the best ones for a flair app. What we're evaluating is a users writing and their abilities to engage with the material, and some questions just aren't going to show that no matter how much you got stored inside!

The second thing you should look to improve on is sourcing. Clearly you are using some sources, as you quote from one here, but you aren't listing them there, and more generally, you aren't really engaging with anything, just quoting, or mentioning one book at the end. That is a great start, but we want our flairs to go above and beyond when answering, and a key part of that is the evaluation of their use of sources, not just listing them, but demonstrating an understanding of the secondary literature on the topic, and ongoing debates and controversies.

So what that is all to say is, you have a great start and seem know your topic, but you need to show us better! Try to find questions which allow you to go really deep into a topic so you can really strut your stuff for us, and make sure that you're not skimping on sources either! On that note, we like to give people a helping hand on these things, so hopefully this question might be too your liking, although please don't feel obligated to if you don't have the time right now Tried to leave it broad and open-ended though!

Sorry, we don't allow "trivia seeking" questions. These tend to produce threads which are collections of disjointed, partial responses, and not the in-depth discussions about a particular topic we're looking for. If you have a specific question about an historical event, period, or person, please feel free to re-compose your question and submit it again. Alternatively, questions of this type can be directed to more appropriate subreddits, such as /r/history /r/askhistory, or /r/tellmeafact. I think this is the crux though. Strictly speaking, Merkel is not democratically elected in this situation, but a minority or coalition government is not inherently counter to the principles of democratic governance insofar as the head of government acts in the spirit of democratic government and the compromise that brought them to power, but that is certainly not the case with Hitler, as the NDSAP immediately began subverting the system in an effort to seize total control of government. So while you can say that the means by which Hitler came to power are not entirely incompatible with a democratic system, I stand by the sentiment that by any meaningful metric, Hitler came to power undemocratically.

Edit for your edit, which I missed: Yeah, I think we disagree over what "meaningful sense", well... means, and in the end that is a matter of perspective.

So, as the unfortunate soul who actually answered that question when it came up... Yeah, something like that. "Did Hitler Masturbate?" is a... not good question... "What were Hitler's views on sexuality?" is a much better approach if you are inclined to keep it about Hitler. And then "How was male and female sexuality treated during the Third Reich versus America at the same time period?" is an even better approach, since, as you say, it approaches the question broadly, and as Commie says, can get into sexual politics of Nazi Germany, which has a lot more to say about things than whether Hitler liked to jerk it...

While it is certainly true that Hitler enjoyed genuine popular support at times during his rule, he was never democratically elected. The 1932 Elections saw the NDSAP earn only a plurality in the Reichstag, not a majority, and it should be noted that they suffered a notable decline in votes in November from the July elections, and regardless, when Hitler took over Chancellorship, it was an appointed (not elected!) position as part of a coalition government. Even after his appointment, in the March '33 elections the NDSAP still couldn't get a simple majority of the seats, and wouldn't until November, 1933, by which point it was meaningless since all other parties were banned.

TL:DR Hitler was NOT democratically elected in any meaningful sense of the word.

[–]Georgy_K_Zhukov[S,M] 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

That is essentially the system we have in place now. Homework questions posted which DO comply with the guidelines we have in place - provide some background on what sort of research you have done and ask for more than just the answer - are left up and get this reminder message appended:

Hello there. Your question seems to be related to school work, so we just want to remind you, and any potential respondents, that our rules DO permit people to ask for help with their homework, so long as they are seeking clarification or resources, rather than the answer itself. This policy is further explained in this META Thread.

Additionally, while our users may be able to help you out here, we hope that you also will take the time to check out our six-part series, "Finding and Understanding Sources", which should hopefully prove to be helpful for you as you continue in your research.

And if someone successfully disguises their homework question so we don't recognize it as such, well, power to them, but they are cheating themselves most of all in the end. The sum of it is that this is a space for learning, and "Do my homework for me" is not learning, so we are going to remove those. It sets the tone for the space we are curating here. And just because there are some unscrupulous souls out there who will do their best to evade the rule by rewording a question to sound less like an essay prompt doesn't make it worthless. Some people will sneak in a homework question and get the answer, and be worse off for it. But some people will follow the guidelines here, get some great guidance that helps them better understand what they are studying, and be better off for it. This rule is for them. Heck, this subreddit is for those people. For people who want to learn.
