Looks like /r/the_donald is leaking again

Not even leaking. I'd say they've started brigading now.

I like the section overall but attacking Trump over his family changing their name centuries a go was pretty dumb. Who gives a shit? The whole Drumpf movement is really stupid.

There are so many things wrong with him, why focus on something as nonsensical as a changed name that he had nothing to do with

It was originally in response to Trump trash talking Jon Stewart about his original family name, but towards the end of the segment it was meant to just make a point, and was not an actual criticism of him.

He was not saying Trump's family shouldn't have changed his name. It wasn't a criticism of the name change. Many people they interviewed said they trusted Trump to be President because even the name Trump sounded grand and reminded them of luxury, and they think of the big buildings they've seen, and they didn't actually bother listening to or thinking about the things he was actually saying. So what Oliver was saying was just to take away that name so people could actually focus on his actual merit instead.

People from both sides ended up just taking away the 'Drumpf' part and focused on that instead.

That's the right way to look at it, but let's remember that Oliver spent some significant amount of time developing the Drumpf meme. From the "Make Donald Drumpf again" hats, to the browser add-ons that change his name to Drumpf, to going on Colbert and talking about it, he's taking the joke pretty far.

Outside of the context of Jon Oliver's specific point about distancing the man from the name or the brand, calling him Drumpf just sounds like a sixth grader's idea of an insult.

Oh for sure, calling him Drumpf just as an insult is certainly quite childish, and very similar to the last eight years of name calling, and makes them no different from the people they claim to be better than.

[–]It_was_mee_all_along -3ポイント-2ポイント  (2子コメント)

You must be fun person.

What did I do? I was just trying to be fair here. Just because I don't agree with Trump doesn't mean I have to insult him at every turn.

[–]It_was_mee_all_along -5ポイント-4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Why? I mean you are literally saying that comedian shouldn't make fun of someone? Honestly if all that you see is Trump getting butthurt and still defend him even after the part starting (2:30) then I'm just not suprised.. I'm going to bring my tinfoil hat to join you because it's definitely some media conspiracy.

I'll just quote statement in that video: "we've rated 76% of them mostly false" and then I will keep ignoring the tweets that came afterwards...BECAUSE WHY ARE YOU MAKING FUN OF DRUMPF? HE DID NOTHING WRONG!

What do you expect from comedian? Seriously?

He created a tax-exempt church just to prove his point.

These are the lengths that he always goes to.

Even if you think that it's valid to make fun of a man for something his ancestors did 400 years ago, it's a false comparison because Donald didn't change his last name, while John did.

You DO understand that the pettiness was in mirror of Trump's own pettiness, right?

I understand that it's about his pettiness, him talking about Jon Stewart changing his name and how people are too focused on his last name and image and not what he's actually saying. It's just not that funny to me. It's lame. I know it's out of Oliver's control, but the people on social media wearing the hats are the dorkiest people I've ever seen.

I loved Oliver when his show first came on, but now he's so smug and pats himself on the back for everything and his running jokes and tics are wearing thin. "Not accepting all refugees in is like bacon without eggs. Sure you're great on your own, Bacon, but you belong with eggs! Oh why won't you be with eggs, Bacon? That's like Janice from accounting not living in a house full of 10 cats. You do you, Janice. You do you".

His whole shtick is becoming as predictable as a "You think that's bad? Remember the time I ____" Family Guy gag.

The major point of the segment was that people are voting for Trump the brand, instead of Trump the person. The Drumpf thing was about removing the name from the equation and focusing on his actual platform

You realized Drumpf thing only happened in the last 2 minutes of the segment right?

Because he insulted someone else's name change, so it's okay for us to insult his name change that happened centuries before he was alive. /s

The fact that ANYONE cares about a name change, whenever it happened, is what's ridiculous.

Trump only brought up Stewart's name change after Stewart said Trump's birth name is "FuckFace Von ClownStick." This point never gets brought up in the "Drumpf" discussion. Trump didn't just come out and make a statement about Jon Stewart to be a dick.

I found this segment really disappointing as well; oliver really just comes across as an unoriginal dbag and justifies it by saying trump was a dbag in the first place. I realize Oliver's going for the taste of your own medicine schtick here but the drumpf thing really isn't compelling at all. Had the potential to be a much funnier segment and the hashtivism it has spawned on fb and Twitter makes the people that use it seem like trump supporters from across the aisle.

Yeah, that works when you're Donald Trump and unapologetically admit that you're ALWAYS going to counterpunch, and that you're always willing to get down to someone else's level.

When you sit in the balcony of some ivory tower smelling your own farts and singing your praises about how you're so much more tolerant than everyone else, it fucking reeks of hypocrisy when you start going after people on their own level. And what's worse, you're also showing how much you actually care about Trump's behavior: not at all. They're just mad he's getting away with it, while they all have to hide their opinions out of fear of getting kicked out of their little "social justice" ingroup for making inappropriate comments.

I fucking hate what Oliver's done to political discourse on social media. Absolutely fucking hate it. He's trying to be satirical, but instead he's just encouraging his own fans to behave like the same child he gets to play 30 minutes every sunday.

The difference is shitting on a shitty person is fine. What many left leaning people dislike is the broad wholesale hate of entire groups of people based on nationality or religion. Both are intolerant, one just doesn't fear ALL of their neighbors because one guy down the shot someone.

The difference is shitting on a shitty person is fine.

No it isn't because that's entirely subjective and ludicrous. This is exactly what I mean with the childish reasoning of "no bad tactics, just bad targets".

Part of the fucking point of speaking out against someone like Trump for being xenophobic (Maybe the whole point, in fact) is to disparriage xenophobia. To turn it around, and then mock Trump for xenophobic reasons, is absolutely fucking retarded.

What xenophobic accusations have people made? I feel like I'm missing something. Is someone calling him a dirty Scot?

I also though you hated the SJW PC police. So, it's hate on an entire group and not on individuals? I think all terrorists suck. I don't think all Muslims suck. I don't think all Muslims are terrorists. There's a distinction that rational people make.

I'd say spitting on someone for their German heritage is up there.

"hurr his name sounds funny so he changed it". That's because his name is from a fucking different language. He's literally being mocked because his heritage "sounds funny" to people. And yes, mocking Trump for his German heritage is xenophobic, exactly because it implies that there is a negative connotation associated with a foreign background. Just because it's "silly" doesn't make it any less negative.

Christ.

Nobody is ragging on him for his German heritage. Their poking fun at his comments about Stewarts name change. It's humor and some people don't understand it. The joke is that ragging on anyone's name change is petty. It's not xenophobic.

This is absolutely, completely missing the point.

I found that you really need to watch these segments with a grain of salt

And it was also really good. All the people who think that "he makes shit up" and that he is a "Jon Stewart rip-off" can go fuck themselves, because Janice from accounting don't give a fuck...

I just downloaded this Chrome extension this morning. It changes every instance of "Trump" to "Drumpf".

Why the fuck is it not available on YouTube and where have all these shitty channels that pretend to be news come from, chopping up videos between their own irrelevant commentary?

It is on youtube and wtf are you talking about?

[–]The_Big_Lebaneski 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

Not available in Australia for example

OK, I've found it now but look at this:

https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=drumpf

There's just a load of people jumping on the bandwagon to get views:

Etc.

Oh I see.

Just expected JO's people to be savvy enough to SEO their video to the top of a 'Drumpf' search.

Which is sad, really. Know what Brits wouldn't stand for? An American television host commentating on their politics.

Last Week Tonight is an American show.

So what's going on with Trump? I don't engage in politics, but all of the buzz had it in my peripheral. It seems like he's winding down or wanting to get out of the race?
