I don't get it, can someone explain?
edit: lol so basically overwatch drama
The devs of Overwatch changed a pose of one of their characters (top picture) in response to a person's complaint that the pose demeaned women.
The complaint was that it didn't suit the character very well, and was more appropriate for other female characters.
Which is still a ridiculous complaint.
I think it's quite reasonable, really. The reaction and vitriol on reddit is substantially more ridiculous than a reasoned complaint could be, even if one disagrees with the conclusions.
Yes because it's totally reasonable to argue that someone with Tracer's personality, character archetype, etc. isn't allowed to make poses like that. Though, I will concede that it's a pretty silly pose anyway.
She's not a real person so I don't know what you mean by "allowed".
Allowed as in without major vitrole/backlash I suppose.

First off, how does this person know this pose is out of character? The game isn't even out yet.
Second off, if the company is so quick to kowtow to one person's complaint about something so innocuous, then how many other ridiculous complaints are they going to cave in to? Give them an inch, they will take a mile.

The game has been in beta for a long while now.
That's a pretty pathetic slippery slope argument, tbh—as mentioned, the issue wasn't sexualisation in general, but unnecessary sexualisation of a specific character. If Blizzard agreed with the customer's feedback, I see no reason why they ought not follow through. You're just stripping away the agency of the company because it doesn't suit your worldview.
Ooh, who are 'they'? Is it those damned SJWs?
slippery slope is only actually a fallacy when its something like "gun control?! whats next, pedophilia?!" where the start of the slope and end are completely unrelated.
seriously, you can look it up.
so whether or not you agree with this guy he isnt fallacious.
A slippery slope is one where the conclusion of a given event is presented as inevitable without a reason—they do not have to be completely unrelated and I'm surprised this is how you read it. Here, "give them an inch and they'll take a mile" is nonsensical—they posited a conclusion where a shadowy "they" will presumably inevitably take over the video game industry should producers respond positively to a suggestion that poses are out of line with the character, something not supported by any evidence.
not supported by any evidence
look at the HR and PR guys in the industry, its already happened.
How do you know it's not in this character's nature to want to look sexy occasionally? I wouldn't even call it "sexy" anyways, I've seen women wearing skimpier clothes at Starbucks in the middle of winter.
"They" are people who bitch and complain about any minor perceived slight or transgression that might even only cursorily affect them. Especially when the game is rated teen and he's worried about how this will affect his young daughter.
Because the way Blizzard has represented her, and, ultimately, how Blizzard, writers of the character, agreed? Is that not good enough?
So "they" are not at all relevant to the discussion at hand, then, but I bet anything you've railed against SJWs before.
Edit: surprise, surprise.
Except they didn't say "you're right, this pose does suit the character" they said:
We’ll replace the pose. We want everyone to feel strong and heroic in our community. The last thing we want to do is make someone feel uncomfortable, under-appreciated or misrepresented.
Nothing to do with the character. Only with the complainer.
but they didnt agree that it would be in character, they said they changed it to avoid upsetting anyone.
She's still running around in Yoga pants, so the sex appeal is still there, but the pose (in addition to just not looking very good) speaks to a self-aware flaunting of sexuality in a way that seems at odds with Tracer's 'spunky teen sidekick' persona. The vibe I get from what gameplay/videos/trailers/animations I've seen is tracer is the sort to basically have had that same costume since before it could possibly count as sexy on her to anyone that doesn't have nightmares about Chris Hansen, and never changed it as she grew up. Not necessarily naive about her appeal, not an Ellie Mae situation, but a sort of accidental sex appeal.
I'm not saying any of this is canon, but that it's the impression I get off what I've seen so far of the characters.
If you read the original complaint, and Blizzard's clarification on why they removed it, the core is that the pose is out of character for that character. In fact, the original complaint even mentions more sexuallized heroes and how their flaunting of what their momma (or a skilled surgeon) gave them is totally in character, for them, but not for Tracer.
All of the 'oh my god! They removed the bootie, censorship!' Complaints are feeling, in light of the actual original complaint and Blizzard's cited reasons for the pose's removal, more like children stomping their feet that someone might create an attractive female character who doesn't deliberately flaunt it.
This is their explanation for the removal:
Nothing about the pose fitting the character. They also ignored the dozens of people in the thread saying the pose was fine. But okay.
Exactly when did society stop being offended because someone sneezed in their direction wrong?
Here's the thing, this is an optional pose that players are free to disable and use a completely different one. Why was it be removed instead of making it, say, a rare drop?
If anything, what strikes me as odd as why is Zenyatta a Robotic Monk? When did Robotics and Peacekeeping actually work out when if I were given those two words, asked to think up a story, and all I can think about is exact same storyline Will Smith's movie 'I.Robot' is about?
Edit: I"m not gonna bother deleting this if it gets downvoted into oblivion, just saying.
Seems like you're the one offended, to be honest.
