Very powerful line about Liberals giving into the caliphate from someone who actually has knowledge of the religion.

Thank you for having the guts and the courage to post this and to stand up for what you know is right. Always know that your courage is the same courage that built America and fought against insurmountable odds to create a country where we can be free.

Thankfully in recent years there have been a number of groups dedicated to helping ex-muslims move on to build happy lives that are not dedicated to oppressive ideologies. I highly recommend you seek those groups out as they can help you reconcile the ideas you've been told with the world as it truly is and should be.

Hey, listen to me now, stay safe. I wouldn't parade around the fact that you've left Islam or that you used to be muslim. I'm sure it's a safer climate for you in America than it is here in Britain, but there are now a lot of people that would want to see you dead for the decision you've made.

There are reports all the time here about honour killings by families of daughters whon have left islam or done something to bring 'shame' onto the family, I'm not suggesting that your family are anything like this, I've no doubt they are lovely people.

Just stay safe! Stand up for what you believe in but keep in mind that the people who disagree with you are very irrational and often violent.

Yes this. Please stay safe! I would consider feeling this out with your parents to see what they say (if you wish to tell them at all). Tell them that you question the faith if you think that's safe. See how they react. Do they react with violence or stern words? If only words, perhaps it is safe. I don't know what I would do in your situation, but I would be very cautious about screaming your intellectual liberation from the rooftops. I wonder how many Muslim's have no belief whatsoever but continue practicing out of fear.

The reason why Islam is a problem is all the people 'playing safe'. No one is going to be the first to say hey maybe Brussels was a bad thing and get killed.

I'll be fine. The community I was part of was just a bunch of shitty people who praised jihad but would never man up and go fight for him, unlike the communities up in he midwest where that usually occurs.

We love you. Thank you for standing up for what's right!

[–]NimbleNavigator_RUS 21ポイント22ポイント  (0子コメント)

Wow, strong words here. I can't say I blame you. This is your life to live in which you're equal and should not be bound by stupid rules. You will prosper from your own hard work and need noones sympathy. Welcome to the dark side homie. MAGA

I don't want to insert some low energy b.s. into this, but I have serious doubts this is real. A Muslim would not call it a "Hajib" -- it's a hijab, and even if you don't speak Arabic (which a huge percentage of Muslims don't), you will have heard that word over and over and over in your lifetime (especially if you've been wearing one).

The use of a throwaway account, of course, doesn't help against my suspicion.

As an aside from her personal choices, I don't cheer in hearing a Muslim leave their religion -- I want Muslims within the religion to speak out against all the bullshit and change it into a religion that conforms with western culture, if they live in a western country.

To OP: either way, have a coat and MAGA!

A Muslim would not call it a "Hajib" -- it's a hijab

oh yeah, that is right.

OP is likely fake and gay

The 'hajib' thing concerned me too. That and the invocation of 'the current year': "Some medieval war tribe (thats all Muhammad lead) has no place in the year 2016".

If it's true, I wish OP all the best and I'm glad she's chosen to join us, I also desperately hope she stays safe if/when her parents find out, support structures can be essential when a Muslim becomes an apostate.

Actually vowel sounds don't matter so much in Arabic, it's more about the consonant sounds and in fact vowels are not even written as full letters in Arabic script, so hajib ~= hijab.

Agree....there are no moderate Muslims? Give me a break.

I want to thank you for posting this. I have only seen people take two sides on Islam, outsiders not knowing much about it calling it a death cult, and people on the inside saying it is a religion of peace and calling anyone who disagrees with them racist.

I hope your relationship with your family is able to recover from this.

Religion needs to be a personal choice. You need to personally choose to keep the rules because you want to, not because you are forced to by others.

Premarital sex is over-rated. It leads to drama, emotional trauma, and it leaves you vulnerable to unscrupulous men.

I applaud your rationalizing, but don't be too quick to give away the gift of your body.

I also very much agree with this. I'm not religious, but religious restriction is not the only reason to abstain from sex.

It leads to drama, emotional trauma, and it leaves you vulnerable to unscrupulous men.

If you replace "men" with "people" the same statement holds true for friendship. That doesn't mean you shouldn't have any friends.

There's a middle ground between having sex with a different partner every week and not having sex at all.

This is not good advice... premarital sex is fine. Women aren't these precious little flowers that need to be protected and can't tell who unscrupulous men are. How about you let her decide for herself what she wants in life?

And by the way, there are a lot of people out there that are terrible in bed. Sexual compatibility is vital and something that should be figured out BEFORE marriage

I have internalized this all my life and just recently I had joined a feminist group on campus

Be very careful not to join the next cultish religion.

I want to have sex

The religion of feminism tells you things about sex that just aint so (and that includes all of reddits very liberal self help subs). Do not let them sell you the idea that women do handle one night stands and sleeping around the same way men do. Feminism sells you the idea that you can have everything. It's not true. Feminism tells you it's your body when you abort a child and that you'll be just fine afterwards and not feel a thing. It's not true. Women in Japan have graves for aborted children cause that society knows how much damage an abortion does to the mother. It's not easy, it's not nothing and it's not a clump of cells you throw away just like snot.

Feminism is the idea that women have all the rights of the world, all the privileges but none of the responsibilities. Actions have consequences.

I think it's fantastic that they helped you and got you out of Islam. Just remember, if something sounds too good to be true. It likely isn't true.

I'm very happy that you found your own way, and as someone who is half Arabian I understand how hard it can be. But there is one thing I disagree with.

Let me tell you something right now, there are no "moderate muslims". There are no "assimilated muslims".

There are some. Very few in my experience, to the point where of all the Muslims I know (which is a lot), I could only put 4 in that category. And they are some of the best people I know.

Edit: Banned for being a Bernie supporter even though I'm not... gg mods, gg

If you call yourself a muslim at all, you aren't really assimilated. Its as stupid as calling yourself a viking or pagan. Some medieval war tribe (thats all Muhammad lead) has no place in the year 2016

We could use a resurgence of Viking spirit right now though.. Denmark is full of downtrodden people.

One step at a time, bro. OP is an AMERICAN.

If you call yourself a muslim at all, you aren't really assimilated. Its as stupid as calling yourself a viking or pagan.

I dunno.

If someone calls themselves a Christian, and truly believes in their redemption through accepting Jesus Christ as the savior of mankind sent by God to die and atone for our sins as a sacrificial lamb, I don't think their values are necessarily antithetical to the US.

Furthermore as a Hindu, an a relatively orthodox one, who worships Savitr in the morning, Dyaus Pitr at noon, and Rudra at night, and is decidedly pagan and non-Christian what with my ash markings on my forehead and arms (weekends only) after prayer, I also reject the notion that I'm not somehow an American.

America is my home.

http://www.loc.gov/teachers/classroommaterials/connections/thomas-jefferson/history3.html

The bill for establishing religious freedom, the principles of which had, to a certain degree, been enacted before, I had drawn in all the latitude of reason & right. It still met with opposition; but, with some mutilations in the preamble, it was finally past; and a singular proposition proved that it’s protection of opinion was meant to be universal. Where the preamble declares that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed, by inserting the word “Jesus Christ,” so that it should read "” departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion” the insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of it's protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and infidel of every denomination.

This is us.

This is who we are as Americans.

We've been like this since 1786 at least.

I've no problem with Muslims.

I have a problem with Muslims that have a problem with you not wanting to be Muslim any longer.

Thank you for being brave. While we like to joke around about how hard it is coming out publically as Trump supporters to our friends and coworkers, I can't possibly imagine what it's like standing up to your family and your mosque like that.

May the MAGA be with you!

You are so damn right to refuse stupid impositions. This is what we want, a world where everyone can be free, safe and happy. However bear in mind that being Muslim is not wrong, what is wrong is not having a free society. If you still feel connected to Allah, dig deeper, I am not an Islam expert but there could be a way of living it without renouncing to what you wish to do. Or maybe there are not but you would be able to make an informed choice. Just be free and safe, is the most important thing.

None of these things are permitted.

If you live in America, all those things are permitted.

Stay safe. You might need to put some distance between yourself and your family.

If this isn't reason enough for every atheist in America to vote for Trump I don't know what is.

You can't change your skin color, height, sexual preferences... discriminating against people for things that are out of their control is wrong, BUT, religion is not out of your control. I have no problem at all criticising Islam, Islamists, Muslims, or anyone who has anything kind to say about this backwards religion that came straight out of the Stone Age into the nuclear era and has zero conception of how to integrate in the 21st century.

Islam (like all religions, but particularly Islam) is a terrible, terrible cult that does very little good for very few, and very much harm to very many.

Some serious congratulations are in order assuming you're not trolling; as I'm sure you know, a lot of people are afraid of being labeled an apostate and disowned, beaten, jailed, or worse. So good for you!

At the same time, I would strongly encourage you to join a group or see a therapist to try to start undoing all the brainwashing from decades of being in a cult, if you think it might be any help. Good luck!

We need conformation that you were a real Muslim. Its not that I don't believe you it's just that a lot of people have been karma whoring and your account is brand new.

OP repeatedly refers to removing her "hajib". But the Mulsim head covering is a hijab. Hajib is a Muslim court official (I just googled it to see if there were two spellings--there aren't).

Everyone there had some kind of animosity to America. Either they support jihadist actions outright or they refuse to condemn them, or they victim blame christians and the west. Every time theres a terrorist attack, all over the media there are reports of muslims who speak out against jihad or protest terrorists. This is bullshit."

Can confirm. Dated an Americanized Muslim woman for 3 years on and off. Your comment describes her family perfectly. Secretly supported Jihad in their hearts.

I had joined a feminist group on campus where there were a surprising number of Trump supporters.

I want to say I'm surprised, but I'm really not. I have noticed somewhat of a divide in the feminist community. There seem to be people who honestly support (and understand) their cause... and ""feminists"" who are just trying to adopt another SJW merit badge for their uniform. I personally feel that feminism as a whole is generally misguided (or at very least built on shaky premises), but I still respect the former since they stand up for their ideals and don't bow down to obey the media narrative. I have never understood how someone could claim to be a "feminist", but then welcome islam with open arms.

I know a woman who my wife used to work with who is an outspoken feminist. She annoys me on facebook, constantly preaching about rape culture, wage gap, and other social-justice issues not related directly to feminism. But she has been absolutely 100% silent about politics this election cycle. Not a single peep about any candidate, good or bad. It makes me seriously think she's a closet Trump supporter.

If this is real, don't join another cult and go to feminism.

Also just because you now you think you have the freedom to do whatever you want doesn't mean you should, that's the path to ruining your life. Think about things carefully before doing them.

Thank you for your post. I hope things go well for you.

I might be a bit late to the party, but any chance are you interested in learning a bit about Christianity? I am perhaps biased here of course, but I am sure there are campus groups that would be willing to both inform you, and help you though what i can only imagine will be a very tough time.

I could even answer some questions, though I am no religious scholar. I am though, a scientist, and I know one thing:

The rules of the universe that we have learned, and mastered all point to one prediction: There should be nothing. No stars. No energy. No 'big bang'. Just a void where the concept of space and time are meaningless. In simplest terms the laws thermodynamics say you cant get something from nothing.

    But there is something. why?

As others have said, take some time to get to know yourself and what you want in your life, outside what anyone else tells you (i.e., do not listen to your campus feminist group). This is a huge life decision and the worst thing you can do is grab on to the next thing that comes along.

Research, read, pray. Look into different things. Enjoy yourself but donMt compromise yourself. And be safe!

I think the biggest thing about Islam, and the major problem it has with the west, is that people are not apathetic towards it. You look at many Christians and they are largely apathetic to religion. For Christians it is just a set of guidelines and life lessons that people tend to go by. It is not a panacea of existence. We all know that modern science, philosophy, psychology and basic understandings of how things work superseded religion a long time ago. So now it is more just the "culture" of going to listen to some good stories and eating finger sandwiches and bread & butter pickles.

Contrast that with Islam and a lot of people are in support of the death penalty for apostasy. If you were living in Saudi Arabia or Syria there is a good chance you would be vilified and persecuted for stating your views.

The plain and simple truth of the matter is that Islam needs to be more apathetic and less rigid. If that cannot happen then there is no place for it in a Democratic society.
