Sex dealers prowling hiking tracks in mountains are on the rise.
Known as "coffee women," they are concentrated in the Mt. Gwanak area, targeting hikers, mostly lone seniors. The dealings begin as they offer the hikers coffee, and develop into stages where they offer liquor and, at the end, one night stand at motels.
Witnesses to the sex trade said, "They told me to ‘enjoy' the offer" or "I once had booze and slept at a motel." One of them also said they only approach hikers who look rich.
Police and the Gwanak-gu ward office launched a crackdown on the coffee women but they still persist in good numbers.
Experts say that coffee women were reluctantly forced out on the streets by Chinese women who consumed restaurant serving jobs.
