I don’t want to like Trump.

His proposed 45% tariff on Chinese goods would be disastrous for the U.S. economy. It’s not practical to ban all Muslims from entering the United States. He seems hostile towards freedom of press. He once supported universal healthcare. He previously supported a ban on some assault weapons. Years ago, he said he was “very pro-choice.”

Sure, people can change their minds, but it’s not enough to make me question where he really stands.

I have a confession though.

I’m fighting back the urge to like Trump.

Trust me, I don’t want to get on the Trump train. I know it leads nowhere good. I should be better than this.

MY GOD. I SHOULD BE BETTER THAN THIS. GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF, JULIE.

It all started when I saw anti-Trump protesters blocking traffic in Arizona. How inconsiderate! This is the dumbest thing for protesters to do. You want to get people to hate your cause? Make them sit in traffic!

I found myself defending Trump.

Then, I saw where some Emory University students felt “unsafe” and “microaggressed” upon because someone wrote Trump 2016 in chalk all over campus. The president of the university has vowed to hunt the “perpetrators” down. This is not vandalism, people. It’s chalk! It washes away when it rains!

Some online were even comparing it to Nazi symbols. Are you freaking serious? They wrote, *presidential candidate* and *election year*. Are people not allowed to express their political views on college campuses? Oh right, only if they are liberals. I’m sure writing Bernie 2016 is totally cool.

Their reaction only made me want to like Trump more.

I’m not alone in this feeling. Lots of people have told me that they, too, feel pushed towards Trump.

So, please, I beg you. Anti-Trump people, realize that your methods are backfiring. Stop trying to silence your opposition. Compete with better ideas. For the love of God.
