It has been infuriating to see so many people on this sub advise against signing James, citing Di Maria as a reason to avoid him. That is utterly ridicoulas. Our attack is anemic. Martial is nearly world-class, but besides that we are seriously lacking. We need better service for our forwards and if you've watched us for the last two seasons you would see that Rooney and Mata do not cut it at the #10 role. Look at the top teams in the league: they all have incredible #10's/creators who are the pistons that drive their attacks. City have KDB and Silva, LC have Mahrez, Arsenal have Ozil, Tottenham have Erikson. We are missing that catalyst, among other pieces, but it is a major hole in our squad. It is a major reason are attack has been so poor. James would fit that role to a tee, and he can play on the right as well. He is absolutely world-class. We should be in for him no question, and if he is available I absolutely expect Woodward and Mourinho (or whoever is incharge) to shell out massive money to get him. World class players are not often for sale -- we need to pounce if there is even a chance James will leave Madrid

Seems Pogba will stay at Juve for at least the foreseeable future, but I agree that if Madrid shelled out big money for him, it could really benefit us

Well he is Zidane's first choice and since Perez is under pressure he will give complete freedom this summer to Zidane.

James is not playing well at Madrid (actually, he's not playing at all). Mendes's influence at Madrid seems to be waning, and he's close with Woodward, and, obviously, his client, Jose.

James is a world class #10, and people who say otherwise, or are against signing him, don't have a clue what they're talking about.

I watched him play for Columbia yesterday, and he was superb. He is being used completely ineffectively at Madrid, and I'm sure he's getting tired of sitting on the bench and wasting his prime.

If Mourinho is our manager, he isn't going to hesitate for a second to drop Rooney if he is not performing. That said, I believe Rooney can be a good option at striker for the next season or two

That would be straight up aids. The no 10 position is probably Rooney's worst, he offers nothing creatively and his poor touch would kill every attack (we'll be playing on the counter a lot). James on the wing would be fine, we wouldn't get the best from him but we'd still see a decent return. James in the middle would be ideal though.

James would be a good signing though I don't think he'd necessarily be the best option, which is may sound odd as he looks to be the most talented player on the market. I'd love to see a big name like James at United however I've had enough of injuries and inconsistent performers, we got enough of them. This is why I'm a little torn on James, he has been in terrible form this season and has spent about a third of his time at Real out injured. For the money he'd cost, I'm not sure he'd be worth the risk, we don't even know how well he'd adapt to the Prem. I'm sure on form he'd do a good job in the Prem also but to the extent he has done in Spain? Not that I agree with the sentiment but many are suggesting he is a bit of a diva and would struggle with the physicality.

We may not even chose to use a number 10. I'd personally like to see a 4-3-3 with a single pivot like Jose used at Chelsea with Makélélé and Lampard + Essien in front. If we were to bring in Kroos instead of James, and Sanches, to play as our two CMs, we have got some serious firepower going forward. I'm hoping we drop Rooney all together and bring in a winger like Mahrez to provide that extra creativity.

I never stated the goal of this post was to influence Woodward, Mourinho, etc... The point of this sub is to discuss the club, nobody expects to exert influence over it. If you believe that, then you are even more misguided than your horrendous posting history indicates. What a shit response

Agreed, which is why I am saying nearly world class. Nearly implies that with another season of development, he will reach that level, which I do not think is far fetched at all

Near world class implies he's close to the levels of Neymar, Lewandowski, Suarez, Agüero, etc. Eventually he'll be at that level but he's definitely not "near" it atm.
