As someone who may visit Chicago for the first time in July, which sections exactly?

What's really interesting is if you go to some bad Chinese neighborhoods, nothing will happen to you. You'll get a dirty look and someone might say they're part of the mob and could beat you up but nothing will happen. You go one neighborhood over in some places and you're dead. Bye bye. It IS fucking cultural, Chinese immigrants are interested in business. Illegal business but business nevertheless. Blacks are interested in one thing, and that's Whitey.

South side and west side can be dangerous. Like if you're white you can't even drive through them.

I'm a black guy and there's parts of Chicago I don't go too, and I live 30 minutes from that sucka. Still my favorite city though

Thank you! So Museum of sci and industry should be okay to bus to?

Yes, downtown in a very nice area. Damn, those museums are great, jelly, be prepared to spend the entire day in them.

The Museum of Science and Industry is actually down on the south side, but it's in Hyde Park, a very safe neighborhood (surrounded by not-so-safe neighborhoods). Bussing there and back is very safe.

Eh I don't know any places like that and I'm from Chicago.

Right? Granted I'm from outside the city, but I've never heard anything like that. I work with a ton of guys who live in the city too, and some guys who live in shit areas like Englewood, but I have never heard that the cops have abandoned ANY areas.

I have the same experience. I'm a small (125 lb) white guy, walked a mile through Washington Park (very crime-ridden neighborhood on the south side) daily last summer. I did the walk after dark quite a few times. No issues whatsoever, quite heavy police patrol, etc.

As long as you stay on major streets and keep aware of your surroundings, you probably won't run into trouble anywhere in Chicago.

People need to understand that the vast, vast majority of these shootings and murders are gang/drug related, and involve gangbangers shooting other gangbangers. It's not really innocent people being gunned down in the street (other than by stray bullets), it's criminals killing each other.

Bingo. Once in a while, a kid will take a stray bullet. Just the other week, I read of a girl killed in her car in Pilsen (hip 'up-and-coming' Mexican neighborhood rife with gangs). Stray bullet. It's tragic but how likely is it? I've lived in the city for over a year and haven't but heard a few gunshots in the distance.

If you're walking through a bad neighborhood in a big city, and you're not in a gang or participating in illegal activities, your biggest fears should be stray bullets and maybe getting mugged.

The cops haven't abandoned any areas, they'll be anywhere within Chicago very quickly. If anything they're more concentrated in high crime areas. I hang out with friends in Englewood and I'm white, I have no problems with anyone there
