Except they're not non-related, most of them are things that directly correlate with population - i.e. cheese consumption and suicide - they will both be related to population which is why they correlate well. When population goes up, they both go up, when population goes down, they both go down.

Except, as you know, the cheese consumption rate is measured per capita, so population isn't a factor that would change anything significantly.
