I hope you can someday move past this and enjoy your life again.

Someday. After I find out if I can make a consumer complaint for walking into place of business and not being told pricing of services sold until a mandatory 30min sales pitch as it's ridiculous and a disservice to the people who want to know cost/price/commitment and not waste peoples time.

Letting this go is like witnessing a cult, not being sucked into it, but neglecting it, and allowing others to be preyed on. Not happening.

edit: words.

Ok don't.

Are you people seriously down voting a statement that:

  • doesn't accept a business that's not upfront with costs associated with service
  • is looking for a way to complain about the situation so that other more naive of the situation people (immigrants/gym new-timers) don't think this is standard Canadian business practice.

Are you GoodLife employees really down-voting that?

[–]chrisjayyyyJunction Triangle [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

You know what will definitely get downvoted? A post whining about being downvoted and acusing everyone of being GoodLife shills.

Everyone /= people down voting the post, but I do see your point.

I made the post because I want the down-voters to explain where I was wrong (minus the last statement about comparing a cult to a business, because, right, we're all so "civilized" in Canada).

I did not down vote anything. Unlike you, I don't care about Karma. I also do not work there. Were you one of those fortune tellers the Star wrote about last week?

I downvote comments that whine about downvotes, and I do it for free.

Is offended that someone happily describes themselves as shallow

Feels calling them a retard is acceptable

Good luck with things pal.

Goodlife is scam. Went there a wile back asked for prices, pretty much same procedure as yours. Then when we finally got to pricing it was a bit more than u could afford at the time, so i told them straight up that its too much. Then they offer me different price, which wasnt good either. So as i was planing to leave they offered me to put on some corporate plan that was half the price of original price. Now i wonder how much lower could i push it. )and what is actual price per member of running gym if they wilinng to slash price by more than half.

Yea, best way is to always walk away when they think they "got you". But seriously, I told him straight up, I didn't continue my one year membership before because it was too much money and was just curious about current prices. Kinda trolled him to be honest because I started to get dumbfounded when he wouldn't TALK MONEY!

[–]thegoodbadandsmoggyLittle Portugal [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

The corporate through my work is about 430$ for the year, pretty affordable - just gotta pay one lump sum. There's also a bi-weekly for 25$ (5 extra for towel). Always enjoyed my time there, never felt too pressured.

Until I cancelled my service and they tried getting me back. Fucking guy called constantly.

Yelp dude. Yelp.

Nice try, Planet Fitness

This whole post is pretty anarchy worthy.. I can barely understand what the hell is going on so it's almost total anarchy..

Someone just mistook Reddit for Yelp.

Fit4Less is Goodlife's discount brand. It doesn't sound like the employee knew that. It would be like a cashier at Loblaws shitting on No Frills. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

Yup, was completely dumbfounded by the statement. Which is why I don't want it to bother me, but, it's, so, UGH!

Edit: added statement.

I had a 1 year membership with them. Like an idiot I signed the contract and didn't take a copy for myself (or lost it).

At the 11 month mark, I speak to a girl at the front desk and let her know that I want my membership to expire after one year, and ask her what I need to do to make that happen. She says no problem, you signed a 1 year so you don't need to do anything to cancel it at the one year mark- it will end naturally.

You see where this is going but I find out 3 months later that they automatically keep you on month to month and you need to give them 60 days notice even after the one year mark. They also won't cancel it by telephone UNLESS you are speaking to head office only.

I explain this to the 20-something bro at head office. He essentially calls me a liar, and tells me tough titties. I am a lawyer - they are in the wrong but I'm not suing them in small claims over a couple hundred dollars.

They probably lost a couple thousand from me since I will never go back.

The sales guy there would also try to upsell me every time he saw me to the point where it was really off-putting.

Goodlife is the worst

Thank you for replying. Off-topic and similar relations, a close family member is a lawyer and I hear horror stories from family of people complaining of GoodLife all the time.

It really sucks when the biggest, most "successful" business/gym is a money grabbing pool of salesmen ready to lock you into a contract.

Go gyms without commitment! Go gyms without Zumba/Bookalooka lessons!

What the fuck did I just read?

Bothered by this because businesses are starting to "mantra" we have the power to low level employees,

??

And that's not even the worst of it, the rest of that second last run-on paragraph is a nightmare.

GoodLife Fitness and Fit4Less are the same company. Its like a Lexus dealer knocking Toyota. Sales usually works using two different strategies, 1) don't tell the price up front, 2) tell the price. Both work to extract most from the customer. I would suggest their corporate office is adjusting to cover more of the market. I think a number of members will move to the new brand. They do things slightly differently. Its more of a walk-in club, but this is great if you combine this with a walk, run, bike ride or organized game. They have massage chairs. The have select able video workouts. Some clubs have cool video cycling circuits, and most of their equipment is far better than GoodLife equipment. The clubs are accessible for seniors, people with disabilities and on wheelchairs. Rates are cheap, so families can work out together. If you go early or late, they are empty. If you go doing the day is going to be the walk in trade. If you are shopping is good to do the background homework. Do the tour. Make the decision. Club membership dues in Toronto range from 175.00 per year to 20,000.00 per year. If you are ex-Goodlife you should know the price... Fit4Life is a good deal. As ex Military you also know, during the recruitment process, if they told you everything, no one would join the military.

I go to bloor fitness. If it was good enough for Roddy Piper it's God damned good enough for me.

Dont know. When i went there they try to bully me into signing with them. Then when i asked for prices lots of fine print came up..

Ew. Fuck this man. Fit4Less was upfront with me. Shitty (comparative) facility, but clean, and everything you need. Only thing that was bizarre was that they wanted a cheque for direct deposits/withdraws and I can't pay with credit card...hmmm...

I ended up signing with planet fitness(got on their opening promo). When i went to check the place they asked me if i want a tour, and when i said that i want know prices before so i wont waste anyone's time with tours if i dont sign. She got right to the point.

Makes sense to me. Business is all about money, to turn a profit. People work all day for money. If you're going to pay someone with money, they better fucken tell you how much of that money you're going to get outta your pocket.

I've been eyeing that place for a looong time. Moved uptown, if I was closer, that's my 1st choice.

For ex-military, you sure are whiny.

ex-this and ex-that, I get to complain about business practices I don't agree with because I'm civi, like you, I presume?

Everyones big over the internet. I love this place. I LOVE THIS PLACE.

So....... you're upset that you voluntarily got shitty customer service and put up with it?

  • You were free to leave at any time.
  • You are free to do, or not do business with them at any time.
  • They do not owe you anything.

Yes, Goodlife is shitty. I was a member for quite some time, but when I had to cancel because of a long list of reasons, I went straight to corporate, had 4 months refunded and no cancellation fees.

For the record, I was given so much because I had photos of absolutely deplorable conditions at their Queen/McCaul club and they were being spread around social media. I also had a handful of emails from the manager of the club that were things they'd never want the public to see.

I told them I'd publish it all. They cancelled it all on the spot and refunded me a bit. I kept quiet.

oh, you're good. Naw, I was trolling him to figure out what the fuck was going on there.

I have a feeling I've fell onto a lot of GoodLife workers/PR people. Keep up the good work!

Can't get anything past you.

Internets a big place. Why you decide to hang your hat here?

I'm from Toronto. I know people say there are no stupid questions, but that might have been one.

Might is a strong word.

Yes, if used as its homonym.

No way pal.

You stated might as expressing a possibility, which is totally subjective to you and your thoughts. It's strong because it can bind together statements and close them, seemingly with potence, but can be utter useless.

While not specific to this scenario, I'm waiting to try a "I'm going to record this conversation for my quality assurance" line with a Salesperson/call centre or other conversation I just know is going to try and screw me over.

I've been thinking of that idea for a while. Call business, they prompt you with "record convo for x/y/z", reply back with "and I'll be recording for a legal case, if ever need be".
