Tourists blasted for 'shameful' food waste as they use plates to scoop up everything at all-you-can-eat buffet

The customers can be seen using plates as makeshift shovels to hoard as much breaded shrimp as they possibly can

A group of diners at an all you can eat buffet have been criticised for shovelling huge piles of food onto their plates - then leaving much of it uneaten.

A video showing the greedy customers frantically stockpiling vast quantities of shrimp onto stacks of plates has been widely shared on social media.

The feeding frenzy was captured at a hotel buffet in Thailand and said to be carried out by a group of Chinese tourists.

People are seen clambering over each other and eschewing tongs in favour of plates, which they use to scoop up as much seafood as humanly possible.

Pictures later appeared on Twitter apparently showing huge piles of the food left untouched.

People's China Daily posted the images with the words: "What a waste."

One Twitter user described the video as "shameful".

According to Shanghaiist , some commentators have suggested the behaviour is due to the exorbitant price of shrimp, with one customer in Qingdao in China recently being charged 2,700 yuan (£288) for a plate of the crustaceans.
