I don't stop being black just because I'm queer.

What's your point? I don't stop being white because I'm queer.

While I realize that if the two movements are a venn diagram there will be an intersect in the middle. But the number of people that fit into both categories is insanely small - and both categories have nothing to do with each other.

and both categories have nothing to do with each other.

Except for the people who are LGBTQ+ identified and experience/are concerned with institutionalized racism.

Your description of your concern with BLM's sounds like an empathy/lack of information issue more than anything else. You're not black, and your friends aren't black, so you'll "never understand it fully." Okay? And? I'm not a gay man who has sex with other men and is interested in donating blood, but that didn't stop me from educating myself about the ban on blood donations from MSM (an issue that has highlighted at Pride) and coming to a decision on it, rather than rejecting it out of hand as being something that doesn't affect me and is statistically insignificant.

That's just you though. There is absolutely no oblation or expectation for anyone that's part of BLM to know or care about that.

And I wouldn't blame them either. There are a million social justice campaigns out there.

I'd love to live in a world were everyone was aware of everything and cared about everything, but that's the entire point of having different groups in the first place. We aren't a social justice club. Everyone has their focus, and that is okay.

No one is saying that anyone is obligated. You are not required to make a donation to BLM Toronto in order to march in this year's parade -- they're merely an honorary group. But we're not talking about being obligated to care; I'm responding to your comments that certain issues shouldn't be discussed simply because you feel that they are too small to garner significant support.

You don't have to learn anything about BLM, just like you don't have to learn anything about two-spirit. That doesn't mean there shouldn't be a discussion. Further, Pride has a history as a political protest action; is the inclusion of social justice campaigns in any way shocking?

I said that? Where?

You sound proud to be ignorant to the movement. Majority of the Female BLM's organizers are Queer.... there's a reason they chose Pride to march

Majority of the Female BLM's organizers are Queer.

And that's great, I'm glad that they are... But what does that have to do with the movement itself?

The struggles intertwine dummy.. You damn near starting to sound like a troll. You can't be serious

Just because it's small doesn't mean it shouldn't have a voice? There are issues that are extremely relevant to many people at the intersections of race/gender/sexual minorities. Things like black masculinity and how that affects their gay culture. Or the fetishization of black/asian bodies.

How do you expect Pride to be "community" when you're basically saying that meh, we don't care about these folks as long as we're all about the ~GAY~?

It's not due to lack of want, but lack of meaningful exposure.

Yet you bemoan any attempt at providing exposure. Where's the want here?

Yeah, I didn't say that.

Things like black masculinity and how that affects their gay culture. Or the fetishization of black/asian bodies.

These are TOTALLY issues that affect us as a group! I agree! are these issues that affect BLM however? Is a conversation about fetishization of black/asian bodies appropriate at an event like that?
