Right, so it's a made up word, made up by feminists who don't agree with the opinion of a man, and use his gender to attack him? How sexist.

[–]ronnnumber -5ポイント-4ポイント  (4子コメント)

I don't think you understand what mansplaining is.

[–]bumbleb333 9ポイント10ポイント  (0子コメント)

that's exactly what it is

You have a platform right here to explain why he's wrong and you're right. Use it.

(And before you lump me in with him, look at my flair and contemplate whether that signals something about whether I think the WTA is riding the coattails of the ATP—although it probably is to a certain extent.)

Thanks for asking.

Well first of all, words are made up. Then through common usage they find their way into dictionaries. That's simply how it works because living languages evolve over time, which is useful and appropriate. Secondly that word is not exclusively used by "feminists" and even if it was, so what. Not everyone agrees with Mr Jezzaaah's dim view of feminists, who have historically achieved great things to further the cause of women. Thirdly, as to the definition, it's a term used to describe the tendency of some men to explain things to women in a patronizing or condescending tone because they assume women are too stupid to understand. This happens all the time, so why shouldn't there be a word for it. Lastly, I'm not making any assumptions about you, and thanks again for asking me to clarify.

EDIT: words

No prob, Bob. I just tend to fall back to the old saying one of my professors used to use when we'd use a word without justifying or explaining our assertion: "You're using that word like a drunk uses a lamp post—for support rather than illumination."

I think you did fine explanasplaining mansplaining.

Ugh.

Men, and white people, on reddit especially, only claim "sexism" or "racism" when someone says something bad or not nice to men or white people.

I bet you never claim "sexism" or "racism" when you here a black joke or blonde joke or billion other benign things that aren't perfectly PC but don't effect your race or gender.

The term mansplaining isn't sexist. Invalidating the success of all female tennis players and implying that they should "get on their knees" is.

Off you go, back to /r/feminism.

[–]asshair 1ポイント2ポイント  (2子コメント)

I don't think you know what feminism actually is and if you did you wouldn't feel so threatened.

[–]MrJezzaaahGoffin -1ポイント0ポイント  (1子コメント)

Oh i do know what feminism is, it's supposed to be a movement fighting for equal rights between men and women, but when it comes down to it, a lot of opportunities will be taken to hate on men and what they do, because if you look at it in a certain way, it's not beneficial for women, which then immediately makes them 'women-hating' and 'mansplainers'.

So i'm not having that discussion, and i'm without a doubt not threatened.

Not in the least.

Now off you go, bye.

Who's hating on men?

This thread is about the CEO of the biggest Masters dismissing women, yet you take it as an opportunity to get offended about men, the true victims of sexism, being attacked.

That says far more about you than it does about the situation at hand.
