This thread is making my eyes bleed. Apparently some people don't have a right to an opinion (which is: women tennis players shouldn't be making as much money as men because they are inferior athletes - which holds true in pretty much every sport - and don't offer as much entertainment) because it' "sexist"?

Also some facts.

The women’s tour has 31 independent tournaments for a total pool of $24.6 million and an average $794,000. Whereas the men have 51 individual tournaments with a total pool $65 million for an average of $1.29 million.

Using this very rough analysis, it could be argued that women’s tennis is indeed a high profile and valuable tour but when left to its own devices, can generate only 75 percent of the prize money that men can attract.

It is open to conjecture if this relationship also exists in the Slams, where some statistics show the women attract just as much interest. Maybe it’s a case of the top women attracting as much interest as the men but with lower ranked players and tournaments, there is more revenue and interest in men’s tennis.

So even if the CEO was a bit over the top, I'm honestly not getting the hate.

He is free to say whatever he wants. And Indian Wells is free to fire him.

Because he is in a position where there are things - which can be true - he cannot say only because they hurt the sensibility of those like you.

Guess what: if you're the CEO of a major corporation, don't EVER bring up women on their knees thanking men. It will get you fired every time. And it should get you fired.

He has a right to his opinion but he cripples himself by being a massive dick about it. The anger is more about the tone than the content.

And that's the capitalist point of view, and as such the CEO was right.

From the moralist point of view, women would probably just as equally promote the sport, and there's some evidence for that.

They are not lucky, they are in position to change everything!

If it's true, why did the women's TV ratings eclipse the men's in the past two U.S. Opens? The Serena/Azarenka final was a whole lot more entertaining than the Djokovic/Raonic final by the way

Found the Trump supporter! No facts, lots of anger...

I'm not seeing a whole lot of agreement on this

Neither do I, which is ok. CEO should keep his job, he's probably doing more good than bad even so. Words are just words - at least in the beginning.
