I appreciate his effort, done well for his first actual prem season but I don't think he should be startin every game for us, we need a better RW

LVG said he sees him as more of a midfielder than a winger and I'd agree. Play him in a midfield 3 and he'll probably shine a bit more. He doesn't have the quality to play on the wing and excel.

I really like him at 10, especially with Rashford and Martial on the pitch. They have really fantastic chemistry and he's great at driving forward from midfield.

I'd love to see Lingard at 10 with a new RW and a combination of Martial/Memphis and Rashford in the attacking lineup.

For some time yesterday it looked like he was in the middle of a front three with Rashford drifting in in front of him time to time.

I'm not gonna say that some of the flack towards him are undeserved, but if he refines his game he could very well be a useful team player. We don't always need Cristiano's and Scholesy's on the pitch.

I had my doubts about Ji when he came into the squad (has it already been 10 years?), but with Fergie's tactics and instructions he was always an important player in crucial games or off the bench. Perhaps Jesse can be one too- his willingness to track back and be that extra man in defense can be useful with proper strategic management.

He's surely not the greatest RW but he does a hell of a job. In the last 2 games he's been played as a #10 switching occasionally with Mata for the RW and he's looked deadly as a 10. He's pace and his relentless tracking back have been huge for us in midfield. Sure he's not the most talented dribbler but I think at this moment he offers us the best attacking option on the RW. Rashford looked good out there as well.

I don't know why there is a consistent talk of preferring Memphis to him but I have seen nothing in terms of consistency from Memphis and in a season that's been quite shit, Lingard has been pretty steady on the RW. He might not become world class or anything but I think he's game will definitely grow and he'll continue to contribute immensely to the squad.

Also a mancunian and an academy kid. Happy to see him do well.

He needs to work on his shooting.

He's not Mancunian he's from Warrington - but I agree with the rest of your points.

He needs to work on his shooting and final passing and he'll be a quality player for the future. I'd like to see us buy a proven RW player and rotate him.

Ah assumed he was mancunian based on what I'd heard. Thanks tho.

Impressed with his work-rate down the flank. Seems only one of very few players to show some passion and drive.

I'm glad he's a regular and I just hope the next manager shows faith in him and he improves even more.

I don't understand all the people who say they'd rather have Memphis than Lingard right now. Lingard is older than Memphis and is much more consistent. And contrary to popular opinion, he has a high potential. You don't get to play through the Academy all these years and break through into the first team without having skill and consistency. He ticks the front four more than any one else in our team. Memphis doesn't have the same consistency as him. He will in the future but not right now.

Yes, I would like a skillful right winger but at the moment I am glad Lingard is playing for us. And, I consider him our version of Thomas Muller. I hope he improves his finishing and stay with us for a long time.

Actually you can. That's how Will Keane got in. Lingard's playing because Van Gaal looked at him in preseason and foolishly assumed that he would be enough on the right wing. He did well last game, but Jesus, have some perspective. Remember the innumerable clear cut chances he's fucked up, remember his lack of dribbling ability. He is a decent backup but should be nothing more than that. Settling for Lingard on the right wing is just proper midtable, I'm sorry.

I'd personally rather have Memphis play than him.

[–]BrownByYouHerrera is love. Herrera is life.

Much more complete player and younger and has a infinitesimally higher ceiling.

Witnessing Di Maria all over again. He will get no playing time then people will hate him when he decides to leave and becomes great.

[–]black_squireMartial -2ポイント-1ポイント  (1子コメント)

Lmao stop. Di Maria actually did something while he was here. Memphis has done terribly and let's not deny it. His wayward shooting is reminiscent of an amateur dropped into a professional game with zero notice. His decision making has been abysmal. He needs time. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. He'll have an entire summer to recalibrate and get back where he belongs. He's also not a RW and his crossing from the LW is non existent. He's not as dynamic as we'd like to imagine. Martial is much better on the left and he can't do any better than Lingard on the RW. Maybe he can play as a #10 but he'll have to beat Mata off it.

[–]Takley 2

Which is funny given poor shooting and poor offensive decision making are both negatives of Lingard

Did you intend to say that Memphis' ceiling is only slightly higher than Lingard's?

Lingard has been more consistent statswise as well as the performance wise this season. Don't know why you would want Depay ahead of him.

Because Depay's more talented and has a clearly higher ceiling.

I wouldn't want him to be first choice, but I would love to have him stick around as part of the overall squad for rotation purposes. He works hard on both offense and defense, and is an academy kid, which I think counts for a fair bit. Not every player in the squad has to be a superstar, you still need players who will play for the club and will be happy in a squad rotation role, and I think Lingard fits that profile.

[–]RVCFeverSir Alex 0

Will be a good squad player/backup imo, runs hard as hell and loves the club, I've got a lot of time for him

Lingard has done exceptionally well & shows great talent, considering he has mostly played out of his natural position. And even more so considering the injury he came back from.

His pace last game really tore them apart at times in the last game.

[–]seaders*THE* Paul Parker

People have to remember about Lingard is he's performing in a fairly inconsistent, under-performing team. But in that team, he's scored two of our goals of the season (Chelsea spin and hit, West Brom composed outside of the box curler), while also unfortunately hitting the woodwork multiple times, including 3 games we instead tied that could have completely changed our season (against City, CSKA and Middlesborough).

He can do better with his crossing. He can do better with his decision making, and passing. But, in a season of underperformance from this team, and some big players, I think Jesse deserves absolutely tons of praise for his performance, and think if he continues to progress in this way, he could be certainly be a squad player, and maybe a starter (don't forget, some around here absolutely adore, and worship the ground Ji-Sung Park walked on).

In the same vein, if his position on the pitch is one of the ones up during the Summer, for new players coming in, I'd be okay with that too.

[–]BrownByYouHerrera is love. Herrera is life.

He is not a good player. All he offers is a work rate and another body on the pitch.

ftfy

He is not a bad player.... but he offers work rate and another body on the pitch which we lack at times.
