The only complaint I have of yesterday is our level of intensity in the second half. I wish we held the ball more instead of asking them to come at us the way we did. If we're a possession based team, why can we not hold on to the ball when we're defending a lead? With that being said, it was a good defensive performance no doubt. I just think we need to work on actually holding on to the ball in these situations

I think it's fatigue and fixture-congestion at this point. We've had very little rotation at this point, and I think around minute 60 our midfield just falls further and further back...

I wouldn't be surprised if after the break we have a few games where we can keep the intensity high after halftime. At least that's what I hope.

I think it's fatigue as well. Liverpool dropped off similarly in their game. The difference was, we managed to hold on.

We were just so gassed at the end. I think 2 of our 3 subs (Darmian and Rojo) were due to exhaustion. I was so worried that Rashford was going to pull something at the end when he went down with a cramp and then we would make him chase our clearances. Memphis would have been a perfect sub for that but we had already used all our subs at that point.

This match just reinforces everything that we already knew about our performances this season. Give us space to move and we can be deadly, shut up shop and trying get us on the counter and we will struggle. I'm over the moon with the result but I won't let this change my view on how we might finish the season. We go up against another team that likes to try and play fluid attacking football after the break so we could see a similar performance and result again. Let's just hope we get the luck we need against the bottom teams to lead us to a positive finish and champions league football.

Very refreshing to see the fast paced play between our front three for a change. Scneiderlin had a great game, but at the same time was quiet, if that makes sense.

Not to bash on Fellaini (I value him as a player for his special attributes) but it was just so apparent in this game how better our football is without him.

Honorable mention goes to Daley Blind. I'm still torn about him and where his best position is. Maybe he has slowly been showing signs all season that he is well capable of being a top class center back. I really don't know. Regardless, he had a great game.

Did we really have 35 corners?

With 5 shots on goal you'd hope not!

Whichever people keep on underestimating Jesse's selection in this team, I'd sugget you to watch the MOTD's analysis on him yesterday. You don't have to be skillfull and flashy to make an impact in the team. People struggle to see the impact players make when they don't have the ball. Jesse has deserved to start more than Depay imo. In fact, I'd drop Mata if Depay is to start. We are not playing particularly well this season. We need someone who works hard in the team. Players like Rashford, Lingard, Young and Valencia are really important at this moment.

Except in other games he offers fuck all, it isnt underestimating him, it's going off the majority of his performances.

Bar Martial, which attacking player has offered "fuck all" every other game?

[–]Takley 1

What has that got to do with anything?. The point is discussing Lingard, and people in their knejeerk state in this place forget how completely anonymous and pointless he can be far too often

It has got to do everything. If no other player is performing as consistent as Lingard then Lingard deserve to start games.

[–]Takley 0

.... again.. thats has nothing to do with anything. We are talking about Lingard as an individual

[–]black_squireMartial -2ポイント-1ポイント  (1子コメント)

I've said this before and I will continue to say it, find me a RW with comparable experience and age to Lingard with better stats than he has. Simple.

Age: 23

Experience: First season ever playing first team football in a top 5 European league

Position : RW

I'll wait.

[–]Takley 0

Oh dear god, you actually think being 23 and in his first full season is a positive... don't you?

This guy is legit asking for soembody who has done better than providing 2 goals and 1 assist at RW lols

When was the last game where we didnt concede at the emptyhad? Happy De Gea got the clean sheet and buzzin that we won. I really hope this gives the team confidence to drive for top 4. And hopefully LvG wakes up to see how much better we play with Schneiderlin and an attacking mindset. Didnt hear his name too often in the commentary during the game and for midfielders that is normally a good thing. Not getting my hopes up for anything spectacular though

This formation works. Having that type of Pace in a striker is fun to watch. I really enjoyed watching Martial, and Rashford rip through City. Before the Sterling injury I firmly expected us to put 3 past, and in all honesty that was a shit decision not to give us a penalty.

I also love Blind's intensity, he really showed he cared and a lot of fire out there facing a tough opponent in Aguero.

The only issue I have, is WHY CAN'T WE GET A DECENT FUCKING DELIVERY ON A CORNER? For the love of fuck, every single corner is shit. Every single one.

[–]Allard1994Blind for Ballon d'Or

IMO Blind deserved the MOTM award. He cleaned up a few times because of mistakes from Smalling and Daley was almost flawless. He made 1 mistake where he misjudged the ball as far as I can recall. Otherwise best performing player in the match.

He is somewhat overshadowed by Smalling and his small posture doesnt help him either.

I loved when he was bullying Aguero.

The upcoming break couldn't have happened at a better time. We are starting to get people back from injury, but you can see that fitness isn't there yet with most of them. A couple weeks of endurance training will be great for the guys returning.

This brings me to the Rooney situation. I'd ease him back. Have him come off the bench vs Everton and then start him the next game. Yes Rashford has been great, but Rooney was in really good form before he got injured.

I think the 4-3-3 formation is working well. I would like to see Herrera in the Midfield 3 instead of Lingard. Although the positional interchange between Mata and Lingard works really well. Offensively Lingard can push wide, while Mata moves in and then when we lose the ball we can collapse Lingard into the MF and Mata can help cover the opposing LB. With Herrera we lose the width but I think we gain defensive coverage and distribution. Despite being a CM Herrera delivers some excellent crosses and we all know that is an area that Lingard struggles with.

Also the returning players doesn't mean the youngsters should lose their place in the team. I hope it means that we will rotate players more. This will reduce the risk of injuries down the final stretch due to wear and can possibly allow us to be fresher than the other teams we are competing with for top 4. This all sounds logical and probably pretty obvious, but as we all know LVG never seems to do any of that so it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

[–]testbug0what's the Mata?

I actually find it a bit funny. Both City fans and us are just waiting for the season to end and for the new manager to come in.

Forgot to appreciate Schneiderlin, Carrick & Juan.

Schneiderlin moved forward many times while Carrick keeps Yaya in his pocket & scrambles out forward passes which gives Juan the space he needed. Silva was shit compared to Mata yesterday.

Another extremely poor performance from a referee, which on another day or 9/10, City shooting 20+ times would've equaled them scoring at least 1 goal.

How fortunate were we to get all 3 points? The answer is VERY.

Had Oliver given us the penalty we might've gone on to storm the game or City might've woken up... Bottom line is, though, He should've gave it either way because IF they had scored and we went away with 1 point It would've been a very bitter result.

The pinnacle of footballing punditry that is Danny Murphy said on MOTD2 last night that fourth place is between Man City and West Ham.

That being said, are people still that determined to write us out of contention? How big a chance do we actually stand?

[–]MadaraTheUchihaI wanna be the very BEST 3

No, he said West Ham, United and City. I get that it sounded like he said West Ham United and City, but in the context it wouldn't make any sense.

West Ham are doing insanely well and City still have KDB and Kompany to return so we're definitely not favourites of the 3. Honestly it's anyone's guess at this point. I'm not even going to try to predict what this seasons table will look like at the end. Besides Villa being 20th.

After beating City at the Etihad, United are definitely favourites to finishing top 4 over City, especially considering all our injured players have come back as well as all the injuries City have been suffering. West Ham the likeliest of the 3 though
