All I'm saying is maybe there was more to it than that, and maybe you're not really assessing the situation honestly or fairly. You being nervous on a bus is not the beginning or the end of that issue. But that doesn't really matter.

And I'm not saying people treated you fairly either, by the way. I'm not saying the people who said you looked like a rapist were right. But you can't say you were shunned for this while you were already actively avoiding people.

People were mean to you because people are bullies and assholes, and I'm sincerely sorry you ever had to deal with that. But that doesn't mean those people thought you were an actual rapist, and were shunning you because they actually expected to get raped.

I deleted my comment because you were right, "I was raped" trumps anything I can say in argument about whether or not people take rape seriously or not.

No, but if we're trading anecdotes, my "they didn't believe me" trumps your "they said I looked like a rapist," especially since it probably was meant to hurt you, rather than meant literally.

What benefit does anyone deserve? Do you automatically assume the worst possible interpretation of everything that every person ever does?

What context do we need?

Whether or not she actually accused him of this, for starters. Because that'd be worse, right? And whether or not she spitefully allowed it to continue. And whether or not she realized it was a big deal. Etc, etc, etc.

She's doing wrong here, I agree. She could be doing worse. But PPD (as is PPD's way) is imagining the worst possible scenario here.

I mean, the topic of this is that she was exposed for false rape allegations, but there's no evidence in the conversation that she actually did this. The worst you can say about her for sure is that she allowed it to happen, and yeah, actually accusing someone is worse.

The title blatantly doesn't match the story. PPD doesn't care. So yeah, there's your context.

Now look, do you really think you're the most objective judge of this? Isn't it possible you were doing creepy things that you didn't notice, or didn't realize were creepy? Or that you remembering a rose-tinted version of your past?

I'm not saying you actually were, but really now... the reason people are creepy is because they don't realize (or won't admit) they're being creepy.

Dude, people like to have evidence, if we automatically believe the accuser, literally every woman in a first world country would have power and send every guy they don't like into jail.

When did I say, or even imply, that anyone should be convicted with insufficient evidence? All I said is that there generally is insufficient evidence in cases of actual rape, and so most actual rapists go actually free. People falsely accused hardly ever get punished at all, in any way.

Also only morons have any prejudice to any gender just because of bad experiences like the one shared in OP.

In my life, I was raped and wasn't believed and gave up. And while the evidence both of us have for this part of the argument is anecdotal and more or less useless, mine's a hell of a lot stronger than yours.

You being "shunned" for looking (and... maybe acting?) creepy, and someone insulting you by saying you look like a rapist... the way to interpret that isn't that people actually thought you were a rapist. They were just being mean.

Besides, you must think women are absolute saints to have this perfect weapon to destroy any man they want, but hardly ever use it. You'd think you'd see thousands and thousands of women running around getting perfect grades and raises and extortion money all over the place if they could just tell anyone they were raped and it was game over for the guy.

That isn't happening because the accusations generally don't mean that much. Which is both fortunate for the people falsely accused and unfortunate for the actual victims.

What part of what she said makes you think she was trying to? She said she never said that, but that she didn't go out of her way to stop the rumor from spreading, and didn't realize it was that bad.

This being the sub that it is, naturally you're not interested in giving her any sort of benefit of the doubt given the lack of context, but her hearing of a rumor and just rolling her eyes and walking away from it isn't exactly unheard of.

And yeah, I'd agree that she should have stepped up and said something instead of saying "fuck this" and walking away, or instead of knowing it was causes a problem and allowing it to happen out of spite (all while not realizing it was getting as bad as it was).

But that's a very different scenario than the one you guys are painting here.

Reasonable people, though, yes. There tends not to be sufficient evidence to get a rape case to trial, let alone convict. Socially? Well, let's just say people like you guys are depressingly common, and a lot of people still assume a victim is lying if she isn't busted up and bleeding, or that it was her fault.

Getting assaulted in a back ally and mauled isn't the only way to get raped, buuut... something tells me you don't care.

When has an "SJW" (whatever you mean by that) ever said that, let alone frequently enough that you can say "SJWs" say it?

The argument is that false rape accusations are rare, and the ones that do happen rarely result in anything bad happening to the accused, either legally or socially. Hell, actual rapists are rarely punished legally or socially.
