Simeone trying to convince Atletico star to not join Man United

Spain's El Confidencial have a piece this weekend on Saul Niguez and his unstoppable rise to becoming a very important part of Atletico Madrid. Saul has been a highly rated young player for some years and linked repeatedly with moves away from the club.

That Jorge Mendes now represents Saul only adds encouragement to the rumours, and suspicions that the player could be moving to a club where Mendes has good connections. Disagreements over a new contract, with Saul asking for more than Atletico want to pay, only gives encouragement, despite the player appearing to be very happy where he is.

Manchester United were linked to Saul under David Moyes, at a time the manager appeared desperate to sign a Spanish midfielder, any Spanish midfielder. There were attempts for Cesc Fabregas and Ander Herrera, with others linked including the Atletico pair of Koke and Saul.

Back then Saul was on loan at Rayo Vallecano, now the 21 year old is back with Atletico and a star of the team, there's every chance he could overshadow Koke... if he stays.

El Confidencial say Manchester United are still interested, but that Diego Simeone is trying his best to convince Saul his talents would develop further "at home". Except Madrid isn't Saul's home, he's from Elche, and that just may make him feel a little less tied to Atletico.
