I used to think about this. I believe a "forever young" version of all of our favorite household pets will eventually be discovered. They'll sell a shitload of them and puppy pad and chew toy companies will make a killing with their constant potty training and chewing stuff up.

Well... Why wouldn't you? Less bandwidth, faster loading, all with full color support and it handles 60fps+ without a problem.

And it only takes one extra keystroke to get all that magic too.

Some clients will automatically translate .gif to .gifv. But not all. So those with clients that don't see a huge difference.

Sorry, I'll dumb it down a bit.

Some computer programs that access reddit know to download the .gifv when someone posts a .gif. This includes some iPhone apps, Android apps, and web browser extensions.

But those that don't know how to do that (web browsers with no extensions, other iPhone or Android apps) instead download the much larger .gif file, which takes a long time.

But if you've got one of the smart programs that knows how to do it, you won't see a difference.
